"I spent my second transfer on buying tree seedlings which I have planted on my farm already. I know the process takes time but when they will have matured, I will be able to sell at a higher price which also helps in crop rotation on my farm. I also used the money to buy building materials which I have already used to put up a decent iron-roofed house. The house makes me happy because I feel I am at the same pace as my colleagues. I paid school fees arrears for my children to reduce the balance they had in school so that they may not accumulate until they are sent home for fees. The rest O used to buy some basic household necessities which had been used up in the house."

"School fees have been my major financial problem. I have never managed to pay in time because of my low income from casual work. The little I do get on a daily basis has never been even enough for our basic needs. This is why my children have always been sent home on a monthly basis for fees. When I received both my first and second transfers, one major issue I used them on was fees arrears for my children. I am glad because, from the time I received the first until now, they have never been sent home for arrears anymore."

"Having have sending my children to school has brought the biggest difference in my life. This is because they were always sent home to collect fees and they could stay for weeks before they could resume. This was brought about by the [pverty life that I had, my spouse and I were jobless and were only depending on farming. But because their is drought in my village most of the time we were not getting any jobs in peoples farms. This was really affecting our children academically. One was joining the high school this year and I am very sure he could still be at home because I did not afford it. I am so grateful because I managed to take him to school and cleared the school fees for the rest. I just wish all my children to get some good education for their bright future."

"The greatest difference in my life is that I was able to clear school fees arrears for my child with the money which I had received as my second transfers. At the time when Give directly came, I was wondering how I would manage to pay his school fees as he had been frequently sent home for school fees which I couldn't afford to raise. Apart from Paying school fees I also spent part of the transfers on purchasing building materials for constructing a better and more spacious house. I am happy now we got a better house which can accommodate us well with my family."

"My biggest difference is that y child was able to join secondary school in time as required, with all the needs and without having neither a debt in school or anyone else in the village. It is a miracle in my life is that I have always depended on a small income from coconut business which could not even meet our needs. My life has been a struggle and my children have always studied in struggles of being sent home every now and again. My son almost gave up in continuing with education because he knew I would not afford to meet the needs in time. But with GD transfers, I was able to mee the needs in time comfortably. He is now in school and has never been sent home again.school fees"

"I spent KES 25000 to pay school fees for my son who was starting his secondary school education and used KES 10000 to buy furniture and the remaining KES 9000 was used to buy food and other basic household needs. The money came at a time when I was really thinking on where I could obtain my money and be able to pay his school fee in full. I was lucky to have received the money from GiveDirectly and I paid the school fee in full. I was also able to buy furniture for my house. The house looked so bad without chairs but I had been able to do very little to salvage the situation. It is through GiveDirectly transfers that I was able to raise the money needed to do this."

"Were it not for GD, I wouldn't have managed construction a house for my family. The little money which I usually get from farming and casual jobs are hardly enough to save for constructing a house. Besides that, my children would not have stayed in school constantly because I did not have money to facilitate their school fees. I was torn between providing food and school fees but my priority was the primary need which is food, shelter, and clothing."

"I spent the money I received on my second on buying a dairy cow. I had been buying milk for consumption. Even this is a heifer, I am hopeful because I know that there is a time when I will be milking on the farm. It is always expensive to keep buying milk for the household. I then paid school fees for my children in a secondary school."

"I used KES 38000 to buy a hybrid dairy cow and used KES 10000 to pay school fees for my nephew who is under my care. The remaining amount of money was used to buy clothes and other basic neccesities for the family. I had been taking care of my brothers cattle for quite a long time but the little amount of money got from the pay that I received from him was hardly enough to buy one of my own. I could only remain hopeful that one day I will accumulate enough money and be able to buy one of my own and move away from the shame of taking care of someone's cattle and having none for myself. GiveDirectly came to my rescue and I was able to buy one and even remain with some extra cash that saw me pay school fees for my nephew, buy clothes for us and food to take us through a couple of days. This has given me time to work hard and save the little income that I get now for future use. I feel so much indebted to GiveDirectly for enabling me realize my dreams earlier than I had expected."

"GiveDirectly came into our village and our lives just at the right time. This was the moment we needed money in our family to sort other several important bills which were pending. To imagine if we had not received is a devastating thought to us, our lives would have been hard since school fees payment to start with would have been the hardest of all. A development like a store construction would not have taken place."
