Kadzo
received a $443 initial payment.
"My husband works in a butchery, and I am a farmer. We are fortunate to have two children together. My husband and I chose to spend our initial transfer money on paying $50 in school fees for our children. The remaining funds were then used to purchase a cow and a goat. This was previously not possible due to unreliable income sources. We are grateful that our children can attend school comfortably and that we have our animals to care for, which is a dream come true."

Guyo
received a $443 second payment.
"Before the transfer, I was in charcoal production. In a month, If I am lucky I would get $40 that helped me buy food for the entire month, But some days I am not lucky and I would not sell and come back home and sleep on an empty stomach. I am a seventy-five years old man, I did not get the chance to marry a wife or a get baby due to lack of dowry money. Receiving this transfer enabled me to buy a bicycle that helps me go fetch water, previous I would walk for two hours just to find water. I bought the bicycle for $40. I also decided to buy two cows each at $450 that I am hoping to reproduce and get more cows for commercial purposes and sell them at $700 each. Meanwhile, one cow produces milk for domestic purposes."

Jumwa
received a $428 second payment.
"I have been in charcoal production all my life, and in a week I would sell one sack for $5. This money would enable me to buy food for my family. On days that I would not get customers, we would sleep hungry or borrow money from a neighbor which made me feel embarrassed. Before the transfer, my house was not in a good condition, and whenever it rained, water would get into the house which made my children sick. When I received this transfer, there was a drought in the coastal region, and I decided to go food shopping in a nearby town so that I can stock a variety of food for the family. I also bought a cow but unfortunately due to famine, it died. I used the rest of my money to pay school fees for my three children. And I finally repaired my husband's motorbike which has been faulty for seven months, Right now, I do not have arrears in school and my husband's business is doing great."

Ruto
received a $428 second payment.
"I had desired to start dairy farming, as an alternative source of income that would supplement my earnings from house construction. Currently, I am earning $5 per day which is not enough to support our family of 3 members because of the high cost of living. After receiving the transfers, I spent it to accomplish my dream by purchasing two Jersey dairy cows that cost a total of $500. I am opportunistic that I will be able to have an adequate supply of milk for the family's use as well as sell extra litres to earn income that would support our other basic needs like clothing. Lastly, I used the remaining amount to purchase more foodstuffs for the family."

Andrew
received a $428 second payment.
"Living in a small dilapidated house with my three children and wife is such a difficult situation for a parent. We always live in fear not knowing when the house will come down and we will be left homeless. Upon receiving the second transfer, amidst so many responsibilities the first priority was to see that the house was at least renovated. I set out to buy all the required materials for the construction, I spent $200 which is inclusive of the mason fee. My family is now grateful to have a decent house to shelter. My wife and I are livestock and cash crop, farmers. We bought one dairy cow for $220, which produces at least two liters of milk daily that we sell and buy whatever we do not have in the house. I also replaced our old bedding and bought a few pairs of clothes for the entire family at a cost of $80. I spent the remaining $30 on groceries that would last us for a while. Without the assistance of GiveDirectly, it would not have been simple, thus we are thankful."
