"I would like to spend this money on buying a 0.02-acre piece of land and also buy a dairy cow and building a big poultry house that can keep at least 100 egg-laying chickens. This will supplement my income which is currently at $30 monthly and ensure that all the needs of the family are met. We are hopeful that for the first time we shall have some savings as a family and later on purchase a bigger piece of land and expand our farming activities."

"When i get this money i will use it to build a house since I already have a burnt oven. I will use it to buy iron sheets and pay the builders. I will also invest in goats and chickens to sell when there is need. Another amount will be used to buy food since I completely have none."

"My ambition is to see give my four children good and quality education. To achieve this, I have to be financially independent. I currently buy and sell chicken at a profit but the proceeds I get is not enough to pay for their school fees leaving us with arrears each academic year. I plan on building a shop where I can sell household goods and farm produce. This will cost me KES 50,000 and I project on earning KES 10,000 in profit each month. I am excited to own a business one day and this will come to pass through Givedirectly transfers. The rest of the money I will use to pay school fees for my children to ensure they stay in school without missing out on their classes."

"We are so excited as a family because receiving this money means that we shall resume livestock farming soon. We are so hopeful that in six months to come we shall have revived our main source of income. We shall buy 3 dairy cows and since there is plenty of pasture around the house they will be feeding well and producing milk optimally. We would also like to try again chicken rearing but this time since we plan to invest $300 we shall be able to curb disease invasion of the flock through proper vaccination and larger rearing space."

"I spend my most recent transfer to procure 2 bags of fertilizer at $70 each..I will use the fertilizer on my 1 acre piece of land by cultivating enough maize so that I can be able to produce higher yields. I also bought 5 bags of maize at $20 per bag..I feel these bags of maize will take us through march next year as my family is very small. I saved some of the cash which I think I will use in procuring livestock such as goats and chickens as well as kitchen utensils."

"The only way to live comfortably in future is to be financially independent. When I got involved in an accident, I stopped going to the farm meaning I have no source of income as we speak. I want to start up a bee-keeping farming for commercial purposes. There is high demand for honey and also it's nature of independence from the owner makes me want to shift to it. I plan on venturing into the business using the transfers at a cost of KES 30,000 by purchasing fifteen beehives at KES 2000 each. From this I project on earning KES 75,000 per harvest which will help me sustain my family needs comfortably. The rest of the transfers I will use it to buy goats and chicken. I am glad because in the near future I will have a stable source of income when I invest into bee-keeping and livestock keeping."

"I desire to invest in livestock and poultry farming. Since I can not depend on farming, raising livestock is my second option. I will buy about three goats at $30 each and construct a chicken coop. With this investment, I will be able to support my children's education and possibly see them through college. The other project I want to capitalize on is putting up a water point for myself. I will need about $150 to tap the water from my neighbors. All I picture when I look at my unused land is a vegetable garden, with different types of vegetables for commercial and subsistence use."

"Receiving this money would mean that we'd be able to buy food. For now we'd buy 4 bags of maize, for food is life and with energy we are able to be productive. As a HH we'd take part of that money and open up a shop selling groceries right here. We'd do this in a week's time soon after receiving this money. We'd also venture into livestock farming thus, goats, ducks and chicken. We'd broaden our investments in this way because we believe that this money might be our gateway out of poverty and we'd be set for life in terms of improved livelihood."

"I own a charcoal business, where I buy 50kg at $5 and resell it in small quantities. I sell the charcoal in the market twice a week where I get a profit of $3 each day whenever I sell the whole sack. The money I get from my business helps to buy school items such as books and pencils. My husband works as a masonry, he is paid $6 a day, and the money is used to buy food for the family. When I received this month's transfer I spent $10 to pay for my child's school fees, Bought two chickens at $4, a school uniform for my last-born son for $6, and lastly bought food for $10."
