"The biggest hardship in my life is food insecurity. Currently, I rely on subsistence farming but food crops have always been failing due to a bad weather here. My husband provides for us from his small business but he also has a huge burden, paying school fees. His business brings in about $3 per day. Compared to my household's expenditure of approximately $5 a day, we stay hungry most of the days."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to finally expand my milk selling business. I run a small business where I buy milk from some people in the village and sell them in a nearby shopping center. Receiving money from GiveDirectly will enable me to buy a dairy cow. I will also buy modern urns that will keep the milk fresh for longer periods, all these at about $ 600. This investment will increase the volumes that I sell as well as profits up from approximately $3 a day to about $ 7. This will help me in paying school fees for my children. I hope to give them a good education so that they can have a better life when they get employed."

"This means a lot to me. I have a grass thatched house which I been living for the past 20 years. When I get this money i would like to build a iron roofed house that will cost around $350. That house will help me in water harvesting. In our area we get water from the river and its not safe for drinking. I normally buy drinking water from water kiosk in the nearby town which sometimes hard due to financial constraints. I also have children in school and i need to pay their school fees. I have fee balance of $900. The rest of the money will then go to expand my business so as to generate more income."

"Throughout my life I have struggled financially. Many of my wishes have not been fulfilled because of lack of money. I dropped out of school just one year before completing my secondary education due to lack of school fees. This is what hit hardest for me because I know that if I had completed my studies, I could be in a far much better position than this financially. I now have my own family and all what I have wished for like good shelter, enough food, and education for my children has never been a reality."

"I have desired to invest in livestock because is the only way I can save my money to earn a profit when I sell them after they multiply. Therefore I intend to spend the entire amount of my first transfer to buy 2 ingenious dairy cows and 10 goats. With the send transfer, I plan to spend $300 to clear the school fees balance of my kid at Mitangani Secondary school. I will use the remaining amount to buy a new bed and mattress for my kids because they are now sleeping on the floor."
