"I have always wanted my four kids to get a quality education. I was unable to give my first two kids quality education due to a lack of finances. They had to stay at home while their colleagues studied and thus got poor results. One got a mean grade of D+ and the other D. I work as a casual laborer within the village where we collect sand at River Chepkulo. Collecting the amount of sand equivalent to one trailer of the tractor is worth KES 1500 and this takes me at least two weeks. The money I get is shared among household needs such as food, clothes and a portion of it is paid as school fees. The coming of GiveDirectly has assured me that my son and daughter will now be at school full time and they will achieve good grades. This is because these transfers will enable me to pay their school fees amounting to KES 6000 for a whole year."

"I am a widowed mother of four who wishes to see my children have a better life than how we are currently. Having seen from relatives, neighbors, and friends who went to school and secured good jobs living in better standards, I have built a passion for education and am certain that my children will only realize their goals through it. I have a son currently in Kenya Medical Training College-Nyeri campus and being the hope of my hard work, I am planning to use KES 30000 from my transfer to pay his school fees thus I am certain he will have ample time in school to study, and soon he will graduate and secure a good job. In addition, I will use another part of my transfer to build a decent iron-roofed kitchen to replace my current old grass-thatched house."

"Receiving this money means that we will be able to pay school fees for our 3 children in secondary school on time. For the last 4 years, we have been struggling to raise their school fees. This has been a big challenge to us, sometimes they miss class since they will be at home. We feel ashamed as a parent seeing them at home and other people's children are at school studying. Hopefully we received this transfers, we will spend KES 20,000 of the first transfers paying their school fees. Since, my main source of income has been rearing livestock, God willing we will add another lactating cow in order to increase our income in the future."

"It was around 10 o'clock when I received a message notification on my phone. I was at the hospital waiting for my turn at the que as my daughter was ill. I became so happy upon realizing that GiveDirectly had sent me the promised money and I was eager to leave the hospital so that I would finally go and pay school fees for my son who was at home as he had been sent back home to collect fee arrears."

"My daughter is suffering from cancer, has been admitted at the hospital and her condition is still not better as she is in so much pains. I spent KES 15000 from the transfer to pay for her medication and saved KES 17000 for emergency purposes. I am glad that she is in the hands of professionals and I believe that she will soon get well. Also, I purchased three goats at KES 9000 as an investment. I will sell some when they will have increased in number and use the money to buy a dairy cow and pay school fees for my children. Lastly, I purchased some food and utensils for my family using KES 7000."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by helping poor people in the society to build better houses, purchase some livestock and pay school fees for their children and I do not see anything that they do not do well."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means education for my children. I have been facing alot of struggles in paying for my children's school fees. The fact that I am jobless and at the same time expected to pay school fees for my four children in secondary school sounds like a nightmare. Immediately I receive the transfer, I will set aside KES 40,000 to pay for my children school fees; each to get KES 10,000. I will use the balance from the transfer to furnish my house. My house is unfurnished for example I don't have a bed. I will buy everything needed in the house and doing all this will make me happy because I will have fulfilled what I have always desired to."

"" my husband is old now and not well. I am the bread winner for my family. Everyone is looking up to me and myself didn't go to school, all I do is farm work and the monies I get is not enough to take care of me and my family. My children are currently out of school because no money to pay their school fees. All we are living by is 'from hand to mouth', that is we eat the little money I get from the farm work.""
