"If I am successful to receive the transfer I intend to establish a business that will help raise funds to educate my children. Things not really easy on us especially being a single mother who has to provide every necessary things for me and my children. The farming is not enough to provide me and the children with enough money to cover food and school fees. So, if that money come it will change our whole lives."

"If I'm successful for Give Directly Cash transfer program, I intend to use the money and pay some with my grandchild school fees and the remaining will go towards buying some more markets to add it to my Business, because the small business like gari ,peanut, saop, sugar I'm selling is not enough to pay my grand child school fees and buy more markets to make the business a bigger one."

"Being a livestock farmer, my ambition has been to boost this career even before I got enrolled in the program. This is an activity that has been sustained us for all those years. I spent KES 24000 to invest in it by purchasing one cow and 2 goats this is because it was not stable since we experienced drought that killed most of my livestock some years back. I also used KES 10000 to clear all the school fees for my 4 children who are still in primary level. It was long since I paid their fees hence they had accumulated huge fee balances. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing adequate food stock for the family, it has been since we had enough harvest from our farm. I was struggling to feed my family by doing casual labor of charcoal burning."

"I am a father of nine children, I am in the charcoal business therefore the only way that I can do to safeguard the future of my children is through education, When my firstborn received his admission letter to a secondary school, I was worried that he might miss the opportunity due to lack of fees, The transfer came at a time when I needed it most, I was relieved on receiving it because it enabled me to pay KES 30,000 for my son's tuition fees, I then used the rest of the transfer to clear school fees arrears for rest of my children. I am happy that my Son joined his school of choice, all that was possible because of the aid that we received."

"For 3 years, I have been living in a small, leaking one-roomed house with my co-wife. This was against our tradition for two wives to share a single room, I was constantly receiving mocking from the villagers because of the condition of the house. I had desired to construct a decent and spacious one but due to the poverty conditions we are in I was not able to fulfill it. After receiving my transfer, I spent KES 15000 to purchase building poles and set aside some labor costs. I also purchased one pair of school uniforms for each of my 4 children and paying their school fees each KES 4000. They are still in primary school but it has been a long time since I paid their fees. I also used KES 5000 to purchase clothes for every member of the family, we were wearing worn-out clothes and I was embarrassed when we attended important events in the community. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing enough food stock for the family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of goats. I opted to keep goats because they reproduce very fast and require minimal supervision as compared to the other domestic animals. I am hoping very soon they will multiply and increase more. Currently, three of them have reproduced and this keeps me encouraged. I am certain that I will achieve a lot in life through this business since not so many families are doing it. Apart from that their demand is very high. I am hopeful that I will soon be able to provide basic needs such as food to my family. Paying school fees for my children will no longer be a struggle. This project has changed my perception of life in general, nowadays I can have big dreams and even plan for the future. I have become ambitious and optimistic in life. Like now am planning to later purchase a dairy cow after selling a few goats. Currently purchasing a dairy cow is not possible because they are normally very expensive and I cannot afford to buy one at the moment. Through the two projects, my life will never be the same again. I have been living a miserable life by always depending on odd jobs such as selling charcoal and the much I can earn from such jobs is KES 200 a day which was never enough to run my family. With these projects, I feel there is light at the end of the tunnel."

"This money will assist us in may ways than you can imagine. Imagine for the past 10 years I have lived here, my highest income in a month has never gone above MWK15,000 kwacha. This is so as we usually depend on selling firewood from the depleted forest nearby. We do this as a supplement after harvesting maize. Even the harvest is never enough due to fertilizer. I believe this money will help me and my husband to seek out other opportunities to make an income. We shall make sure we buy enough food as maize is about to be scarce these coming months. My husband will also buy a bicycle to be used as a taxi business as the one we have is for carrying firewood. We shall also make sure to improve the outlook of the house to make it a bit bigger and comfortable with iron sheets. The kids too deserve some money for clothes and school fees. Lastly,I am very excited and happy to be included in this project as the is something I never expected."

"My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house for my family. We used to live in a small house which could not host all my family members and. My children used to sleep in the kitchen house. Whenever I have visitors I was so worried because I didn't had space to host them. We could talk outside the house and this was so demoralizing. I do small scale farming, I pant maize, beans and onions. The harvest is so small and it's only for consumption. I also do small business of buying scarp metals and selling at a higher price to get some profits. This had enabled me to pay school fees for my children in various schools. When I received the second transfer I found it wise to build a spacious and better house for my family. Currently I have a spacious rooms, my children can do assignment without any disturbance and have their private life. Whenever I have visitors I no longer get stress up because I have a spacious house to host them. This has given me hope to work harder and achieve my goals. GiveDirectly has changed my living standard and given us better life than before."

"The thought of constructing a new house, paying school fees, and even providing for my family was almost impossible in the previous months as neither my husband nor I had a reliable job. I am always grateful that I am part of the GiveDirectly project that has brought great changes in my household right from the completion of a spacious new house to the stocking of enough foodstuff to keep us going for some months as we work on other projects that can earn us other income."
