"Education for my daughter is my priority. I wouldn't be happy to see her become a housewife like me and her three elder sisters. Our life is very difficult because we look up to our husbands for every provision and I view it as a burden. I desire to see her become empowered enough to enjoy financial independence in the future. With regards to this, I will be channeling all my transfers to her school fees until completion."

"Investing in my children's education is the only way to take them out of poverty. However, this cannot be attained if they keep on missing lessons due to unpaid school fees. The most affected is my son who is in secondary school. Sometimes the administration withholds his meal card for failure to clear fees on time. I am afraid he may not excel in the final exam if the situation continues. Now that I am guaranteed to be a beneficiary of GiveDirectly's program, I will join a table banking group where I can save and take loans to educate my children."

"The biggest difference in my life today is that I now have a dairy cow, with I am certain that I will be able to cut down on the daily cost of milk, therefore saving up some money which is a very big relief on my side, secondly, I cleared school fees arrears for my children, lastly, I renovated my house. Indeed this is a blessing from above, everything went on smoothly as I had planned am I am grateful for the support that lifted my life amazingly."

"Farming is my main source of income, this is what I depend on to pay for my children school fees, this has been my major challenge because I have eight of them, therefore my life is different now because I was able to pay for the fee arrears, and also managed to buy a piece of land so that I can increase the yields which would mean getting an extra income. I also bought a dairy cow which I am hopeful that I will be able to get enough milk for our daily usage hence cutting down on the cost of buying milk daily.GiveDirectly gave me hope of a better tomorrow and I am thankful for that."

"The transfer from GiveDirectly has transformed our living condition. Initially, we lived in a sorrowful state. Our house was small and falling apart due to bad weather conditions. Its walls were full of cracks and it was not safe to reside in. I was constantly worried about our safety. The fact that my only way of earning some money was from making and selling charcoals, I had no money and could not afford to change our living conditions. Upon receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, I saw light. I have been able to complete the construction of a new-interlocking block house. I also managed to pay school fees for my 3 children who are college, secondary and primary schools respectively. This could just remain as a dream if it were not for GiveDirectly."

"I can attest that I am a changed person in relation to the initial living state I was compared to now. My life is now different since I feel fulfilled with what I have achieved with these transfers. I am now a happy and confident mother unlike before. Poverty had instilled fear in me and I was an unhappy mother due to the fact of lacking to provide basic needs for my family. My future is bright, no more stress in my life and my children are going to school comfortably unlike before when they could spent most of the time at home due to school fees."

"Lack of a reliable source of income has been a major challenge in my family thus impacting a lot of stress in me. I used to sell charcoals for a living. The process of making the charcoals is very tiresome and due to my old age it was a big challenge. I spent the money I received in buying hard corals which cost KES 7500.00, 10 bags of cement for KES 6000.00; I also paid school fees for my class daughter KES 5000.00 and also paid KES 14000.00 for labour to the constructors. I decided to save the rest and am planning on how I can use them in floor making as well as for food."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a proud owner of three goats and not one as I used to before. These are assets to me that I can depend on in case of any financial constraints as one can easily sell them. In addition, I will be selling the offspring when they reproduce and use the money in paying school fees for my children and this will enable them to concentrate on their studies as they will rarely be sent back home."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to relocate my son who is in college. My son when he joined the college he was living in hostels. He was required by ghetto school to look for a rental house outside. I depend on small scale farming at home and I do not have another source of income. I was so stressed up on where to get the money. I could have sold my only cow. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felted so happy because I knew I won't sell my dairy cow. I knew I will sort out the expenses for my son. Currently he is living peaceful and study well in school since I had paid the school fees. I have peace of mind to do other activities at home. GiveDirectly came at the point when I needed support the most. I'm so happy for the support because GiveDirectly has changed my life."
