"If I am successful to receive my transfer, I will use the money to pay my children school fees and renovate my house. The house I am currently living in has leakages everywhere, and when rain is falling, we don't have place to stay."

Felix
received a $497 initial payment.
"With the first KES17300 of my transfer, I spent it on obtaining four goats and a sheep. This investment in livestock is geared towards raising future school fees for my children as it is the easiest saving plan when there are enough fields to graze on. I also obtained 22 iron sheets at KES16500 in preparation to demolish the old kitchen and put up a new structure that is spacious enough to serve both as a kitchen and with a partition for my children who had been sleeping under a squeeze and leaking roof to sleep in. I am glad that I have been able to assemble all the construction materials and the work will be commencing soon. I also obtained a sack of maize as foodstuff that will serve my family of seven for at least two months before buying more, and finally decided to save the remaining KES 14000 that I will use in paying the labor charges on the construction work."

"I have always desired to add some beds in my house so that all my children can sleep comfortably.
With these funds, I will keep 1,500KES aside every month for four months. That will enable me but two more beds.
My husband works hard to provide for us. It would be nice to assist him with paying our children's school fees once in a while as we strive to save some money in the sacco for a rainy day."

"People here were in dire poverty, as you can see there are no reliable income generating activities other than farming where we also harvest less due to climate change, but now the socio economic status of this community has greatly improved with the coming of GiveDirectly. People are building beautiful houses, buying matresses, paying school fees for their children, buying food, starting small scale businesses and many more. Therefore to me Givedirectly has done a very commendable job of uplifting our socio economic welfare and i find nothing lacking"

received a $481 second payment.
"We lived a pitiful life before; our living situation was not pleasing since I relied on making and selling charcoals and selling sisal for a living. We have been living is a small grass house as well as staying for a while without food, no decent clothes and no school fees. But since the day I received your support life has changed positively. We have a big decent house, my elder son is happy having collected his results and the ones who are still in school are also happy since they are now full time students unlike before when they could stay at home for almost 3 weeks because of school fees. Thanks to Give Directly for seeing us through this situation which was depriving us of some happiness."

Chadi
received a $481 second payment.
"I have been living uncomfortable for a while since my house collapsed. It was a sorrowful state full of stress. Upon receiving the 1st transfer, I decided to construct a good stable house which I completed using the decided to construct a new-interlocking block house. I also managed to pay school fees for my 2nd transfer. I also managed to buy a cow which I am sure before the end of this year it will be providing some milk for both selling and family use. I took these steps to overcome the worries of insecurity I had as far as the house issue was concerned as well as having the cow as an investment."

Jumwa
received a $497 second payment.
"Initially things were bad, our living situation was not pleasing since my husband and I relied on making and selling charcoals, selling sisal as well as herding other people’s livestock for a living. This kind of business was full of challenges such as attacks by wild animals while in the forest cutting trees. But since the day I received your support life has changed positively. My elder sons are happy have their own houses, the ones who are in school are also happy since they are now full time students unlike before when they could stay at home for almost 3 weeks because of school fees. Thank you Give Direct for having a greater positive impact in my life and family. May God bless GiveDirectly."

"If I receive this money I will build my own house and take the full responsibility of my children which will bring me so much joy.
Eventhough I work as a daily hire at times to sustain myself but the money I earn from the job is not enough to take care of my children and build a house.
I feel bad at times living in family house and haven't settled down with any woman yet since my wife died. Anytime I decide to bring woman in the house, it has always became a serious problem between my family and I.
As a grown up man now, I should be the one taking the full responsibility of my children, instead it is my mother who is feeding my family as well as paying my children school fees."
