"With GiveDirectly's transfers, I was able to sat for my exams and was able to complete my course which I had no hopes to complete due to lack of school fees. Now I have graduated and ready to work. Again, we were able to build a house which would have taken us some time before we get enough resources to spend on buying construction materials. All these wouldn't have happened without the support we received from GiveDirectly."

"With my first transfers, I managed to build a ironed roofed house and this was a great step in my life. It was never done until when I got my second transfers which enabled me to acquire furniture. I bought furniture worth KES 20600. These made my house comfortable and a warm place to rest after days work. I then spent KES 10000 on buying building materials for constructing a house for my children. I opted to have one for them so that after being intiated they will have a place to sleep. I spent KES 8000 on buying 4 sacks of maize for consumption and KES 45000 on buying fertilizers and seeds for planting. I saved KES 10000 so that I would spend on paying school fees for my children next term."

"As a parent, I was struggling so much to raise school fees for my children and this would see me commit most of my earnings on paying their school fees. Since the cash wasn't enough, I was left with nothing to do other things which are necessary like shelter. But when I got the transfers, I built a house for my sons and acquired a water tank. And with these, my children were so happy as they knew that they would no longer have to spend most of their time fetching water."

"The biggest in my life is that I managed to send my son to college and cleared the school fees for my other children who are still in primary school. Previously they used to stay home for weeks becasue I only depended on the casual jobs and sometimes the money that I was earning was not enough for food leave alone the fees. Therefore sometimes I depended on the well-wishers and most of the time it was difficult to get help. This forced my children to stay home and moss important exams. I am now a happy parent because it has been my wish to see my children getting good education like the rest. I am now optimistic that they will have a bright future together with their generation courtesy of GiveDirectly."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying some iron sheets, timber, a few building poles, and timber. This was for the completion of my house which I was constructing using the first transfers. I opted to construct a new one because the previous one had collapsed few weeks before was enrolled. I also bought a dairy cow which cost KES 25000. This will be the living asset that I will depend on in case of any financial crisis. Also, I bought a wooden bed and a mattress to replace the old traditional bed that I was using for all those years. I later cleared school fees for my children who are still in primary school. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my children."

"I was blessed with 9 beautiful children, 3 of them did their K.C.P.E ( Kenya certificate of primary education) back in the year 2019, but due to financial instability, I could not take them to secondary school. Though they passed exams, they did not get any scholarships because competition was very high. Receiving this money means good education to my children. I am planning to spend 80,000 shillings to pay school fees for the 3 of them, this is for a whole year so that they can start learning. I will invest the remaining amount on business (buying and selling goats) in our rural areas. In each goat I can make a profit of 1000 which I can save 70% of it for my children future education. I hope that they will pass with flying colours and later be employed and support the rest of the family in future."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers. I have a small business of selling maize at market. This business used to give me small profits. When I receive the second transfer from GiveDirectly I bought more stock. The business now is good, I nowadays get a good profit and I am able to meet all the basic needs of the family including paying school fees for my children in various schools. This season I was in a position to buy seeds and fertilizer. I also cultivated my farm and planted on time. When I had not received the transfers I could delay in planting because the money from my business could not meet all the household expenditure and including paying the farm workers. I am so grateful because I am sure of good harvest this coming season. My children Also will be in a position to study well without being sent home to collect the school fees like before. GiveDirectly had also enabled me to start a saving plan. I save the the money in my Mpesa for any emergency and also for future use."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers. I have a small business of selling maize at the market near home, This usually earns me an income to meet household needs and pay school fees for my children in various schools. I was not able to pay school fees on time because the profit was small. My children used to be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting the performance. When I received the second transfer I add my stock. This has made me gets some profits and also break-even. I am in a position to clear all the school fees on time. I am also in a position to meet other basic household needs which was so expensive. My children are no longer sent home to collect school fees like before. I am so grateful because GiveDirecyly has changed our living standards."

"Receiving this money means constructing a new iron-roofed house for my family. This is because the one I currently have is leaking and it's grass-thatched. I have wished to have a new one but due to the financial crisis, this has never been possible for me. I, therefore, plan to spend $300 on my first transfer to ensure my new house is complete. I will also use the remaining amount of the first disbursement to buy a modern bed and a mattress because as of now, we sleep on the flow using rugged sacks. On the other hand, I intend to buy 10 goats that will act as my long-term investment project. This will cost me utmost $300 for the second transfer and the remaining amount will cater for food and other basic needs like buying clothes and paying school fees for my son."
