"Receiving this money means proper education for my children. I'll use the transfer to pay my children's school fees. My son completed secondary school in 2020 but he is yet to pick his results from the school because of a pending fee balance of 300 Dollars. Getting his results from the school will enable him join a teacher's training college to pursue his dream of becoming a primary school teacher. My daughter too completed primary school in 2020. I'm planning to use part of this transfer to take her to secondary school. Doing this will make me happy and I will gain the peace of mind I have always desired."

"Receiving the transfer came with a package of happiness to me and all other members of our household. We were all thankful and even felt that the satisfaction we had, and the joy could be made known or seen by the office staff who had us enlisted. This money was new hope of seeing our deserted fields with livestock again. We are still grateful that all we had planned is currently up after obtaining livestock and paying school fees with a part."

"Receiving this money means financial security for me and my household. My first priority is to get some indigenous cows and goats with my first transfer as savings for future needs such as school fees. My second priority is to start a food kiosk with the second transfer. My hope is to earn at least 400 Kenya shillings daily from the kiosk for our immediate needs like food and water."

"The biggest hardship we have faced is raising school fees for our six children. When four of them were in high school and two in University,we had to sell all our liveatock in order to keep them in school. In a year,we would need sh 200,000 on average and my spouse's salary could not sustain this.Thankfully, two have completed campus but are yet to secure enployment"

"A few years ago, the county government in conjunction with the Kenya Red cross established irrigation systems for our farms. This has greatly improved our agriculture and access to money. Before then, we were dependent on livestock to educate our children. When the sale of livestock products could no longer suffice due to prolonged drought, we ended up selling our cows to for school fees. This rendered us poorer thanks to diminishing assets."

"For quite sometime, I have been engaging in livestock trading and it reached a time when responsibilities were overwhelming and I had to sell my dairy cow and spent part of my capital on paying school fees for my children. Since then we would buy milk for preparing tea at home and have none to drink. When I got my first transfers, we sat with my family and my children asked us to buy a cow so that they can have some milk to take. I spent KES 32000 on buying a lactating cow which now gives us milk. I then spent KES 5000 on buying foodstuffs for my family since we had little food remaining in stock. The remaining amount I spent KES 2500 on paying school fees and KES 3000 on buying clothes for my children. I also boosted my livestock business with KES 9000. Now I am picking up and hopefully, I will start making more money through the business."

"Upon receiving the first transfer, I spent the first portion of it on livestock where I bought a cow and a goat both costing 33000KES. I used part of the remaining on completing the lighting system in our household by obtaining a battery and other lighting pieces of equipment. I also managed to clear my children's school fees, bought them new clothing, and also stocked some food that was almost running out of stock. We are really grateful as a household after receiving this transfer that we are soon seeing a completely different home from the one we had been having."

"Receiving this money means improving my social status by constructing a decent and spacious house for my family of nine. I'm planning to use the transfer to build two houses for my family, a two bedroom for myself and a one bedroom for my children (boys) at a cost of 350 dollars. This is because they are always forced to sleep at their grandmother's house, something am not happy about since it invades on my parents privacy. The current house I dwell in is small and unable to shelter my entire family. I'll then use the balance to buy goats. I prefer goats because they multiply fast meaning I'll make handsome profits from their sale in the future. The cash will be used to cater for my children school fees."

"The enrollment for GiveDirectly transfers came at a time when I was wondering how am going to raise school fees for my children.Besides my eldest who is already in high school, there is the second born who recently did his primary school national exams. He performed quite well and is likely to secure a place in one of the county schools. This means that he will not only need school fees but also all the other requirements needed in a boarding school. My spouse and I are both casual labourers at a nearby farm.We earn Ksh 300 per day each and with a family of six,it only means that we spend the entire amount on daily expenses especially food.We have not been able to save up any money and have even sold the livestock we had to cater for the eldest child's fees.Receiving this money means that our son will join high school without any strain as well as allow us to buy two dairy cows from whose produce we will be able to sustain them in school untill they complete."

"My biggest difference in my daily life is owning a dairy cow and sheep. Unlike before I know in some months I will be produce my own milk thus minimizing for me the cost of purchasing them. I had sold my previous dairy cows to raise school fees for my 5 children who were in secondary level."
