"I have three items that are nearing completion. One is my last two kids are still school and I have some pending school fees to clear. Secondly, I have a semi permanent house structure that should have been complete by now but due to lack of cash, I have been unable to finish. Lastly, I have one cattle that is supplementing my family with milk but during dry period, I am forced to buy milk from my neighbours. Therefore, I intend to use 20,000 shillings to finish my house, another 30,000 to buy a dairy cattle and the rest to clear school fees for my two kids who are both in secondary level."

"My ambition while growing up was to finish my education and a be a teacher, but since I wasn't fortunate enough I had to drop out in class 3. I live with my 3 orphaned grandchildren who are all in school. I try my best to get income and support their education by selling my farm produce which is in small scale. I see myself in them and I want to ensure they get to finish high school. That is why I will use most of my transfer in paying for their school fees and the rest in providing basic needs such us clothing and food."

"Receiving this money will help me pay school fees for my children. My daughter who recently completed primary school will be needing school fees very soon to continue with her studies. I also have fees arrears amounting to 20 USD and around 200 USD for the first year of secondary education for my daughter. I will then set aside 150 USD to improve my business.I will do some repairs for my shop and then add stock."

"My dream has been to be an ECDE (early childhood development education) teacher, but due to financial instability, this dream has never come to pass. I joined college back in 2014 to pursue a proficiency course after finishing it, I proceeded to certificate in ECDE which I did for only 1 term and later drop up because I could no longer pay my school fees. Receiving this transfer means fulling my desire. I am planning to spend 50,000 shillings to clear all the fees to balance so that I complete my cause. I believe that I will be employed permanently with the county government and this is going to generate income for my family because I will use my salary to support them. Other than that, I will spend the extra amount to clear fee arrears for my 2 steps children who are in form four."

"Receiving this money will mean a lot to me because I have been struggling in paying school fees for my children. My wish is to be a successful business woman and be able to get enough income to sustain my family's needs. I recently opened a small shop that am hoping to maintain. When I receive my transfer I will expand the shop, pay school fees for my 4 children in school. Two of them are in the university while two in secondary school. My husbands salary alone can not pay for all the expenses since he only earns 15,000 shillings in a month."

"Receiving this money will help me expand my farming activities. I will start by buying five goats to add to the three that I have. I will be able to sell some for school fees and other needs when they multiply. The five goats will cost me around 200USD. School fees has always been a problem for me. My daughter just completed her primary school studies and very soon she will need to join secondary school. This money will help a lot to facilitate her first year in secondary school."

"Receiving this money means that my youngest son shall successfully pursue his studies, especially up to Grade 12. This is because I will utilize the transfer on purchasing more livestock that will be sold later on to raise the relatively huge school fees. I sold almost all the cattle I had (about 10) to educate our three other children. We have been worrying about how we will raise fees for our youngest child following the exhaustion of the cattle we had. As a family that values education yet has relatively inadequate resources, we have been struggling to ensure we educate our children."

"To me, GiveDirectly changed the livelihoods of many people through the transfers. Some people build houses, some bought livestock, some started business and others paid school fees for thier children among many. On the other hand, some people who were victims of Mau Forest eviction would have been considered. Some were living with thier relatives some had sougth refuge at recipients household. Giving them a chance to enroll as independent household would have enable them to buy land elsewhere and have thier home."

"Charcoal burning has being the major source of income in this area, has led to deforestation. This has negatively affected the productivity of this job but we still do it since it's the only way. It gives meagre earnings because of its cumbersome nature. The little we get caters for priority needs such as food thus we overlook other needs like school fees and good shelter. All this misfortune is caused by financial instability which is my biggest hardship."
