"I can say that GiveDirectly did well by supporting us at this time. It was hard to raise money for food and school fees due to effects of pandemic. On what GiveDirectly does, there was nothing which wasn't done well."

"Receiving this money means enough water supply for my family. I'm planning to use 50 dollars to purchase a bicycle for my family. The bicycle will aid in fetching enough water for domestic consumption. I'm planning to use a further 50 dollars to construct a two bedroom house. The two bedroom house is spacious and will serve my family better. In addition to this, am planning to use 180 dollars to buy six goats for domestic rearing. I'll later sale the goats to cater for my children school fees. I'll use the balance to buy enough food for my family. Doing this will give me the peace I have always desired to have."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I used to do small grocery business at the market. The amount of profit that I get from this business is so small and Cannot meet all the basic needs including paying school fees for my children. I used to walk up very early in the morning to go to market get the grocery. I could not get enough time to spend with my family members. Currently because I have cleared all the school fees for my children I no longer do much of this job rather devote much of my time on my farm for planning. My family now have enough food to eat and also sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other basic household needs. My children could be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting the performance. I am so happy because the performance has improved so much. Give directly helped me to over come this challenges. My business is also doing so well and Iam pretty sure that I will pay next term school fees."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses, buy dairy cows and pay school fees for children in various schools. I did not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"Before, I had no hopes of buying livestock anytime soon because I was struggling with paying school fees for my children. But when I got these transfers, I was able to improve my stock by adding two crossbreed heifers. I am glad as a farmer that in the near future, I will be having high yields compared to that which I have been getting from the local breeds which I have."

"My current house is tiny and grass thatched. Maintenance has been a big problem since I am forced to replace the roof every four months because some insects eat up the grass. I plan on building a one bedroom house with an iron sheet roof at a cost of 300 USD. I have also budgeted 250 USD for buying six goats. Goats multiply very fast and this will help me pay school fees for my children in years to come."

"When my husband died 10 years ago, the house which he left us with got collapsed and this forced us to shift to a storehouse that we used as a granary. I have wished to construct a decent house but due to financial instability, this has never been possible. Receiving this money means a dream fulfilled since I plan to spend $400 of the first transfer to construct a 2 roomed house for my family, and $100 will cater for bedding expenses. On the other hand, I intend to start livestock keeping which will act as my long-term project. I will use $300 to buy 10 goats. The remaining amount of the transfers will help me to buy foodstuffs and also pay school fees for my children."

"My ambition is to be a successful business woman in future, I'm currently a teacher by profession nearing retirement next year. After retirement I want to open a boutique town and use the income to educate my children. After loans and tax deduction I have a salary of 17,000 which is not enough to provide the basic needs for my family. When I receive this money I will pay for school fees."

"As a subsistence farmer, educating my children has been the toughest challenge I have faced. Since produce from our farm is just enough to sustain us without any surpluses for sale, I was forced to sell almost all the cattle I had to raise school fees for my children. So far, two of our children have completed their basic education by completing Grade 12. Unfortunately, the struggle for raising school fees has prevented us from raising the needed capital for venturing into the poultry farming business."
