"Hunger has been my greatest challenge. Getting food to feed my grand children is so disturbing as we can sometimes finish off a day without a full meal. Water also oozes from the ground and makes my house soggy and weak especially when it rains heavily."

"Take a look at my house, do not you think I need a better place to stay? I sleep in a house with one room that can only accommodate my husband and me. My children have to sleep with their cousins because I have not been able to build a different structure for them. I desire to build a house with two rooms, one room for my three daughters and the other for my two sons. It will give me great joy once I see the house complete and my children have a house to call their own. $500 is all I need to make this dream come true. Once I have achieved this, I will be in a better place to carry out other activities like putting up a water point in our compound and maybe acquiring a goat or two."

"The biggest challenge is that the landslide destroyed my garden that had Banana plantations, coffee plantations and caliptus trees last year in October 2021in Nakatore village. So right now it's hard for me and my family to survive because all the crops were destroyed .We no longer use the garden because it's full of stones and water still flows through the garden. When it rains heavily the water comes from underground and it gets too cold which makes it had to sleep in the house and we fall sick on the monthly basis because of the coldness."

"I have desired to invest in livestock to act as my reliable source of income in the future because I will be able to sell and support my 7 children's education. To ensure this comes to reality, I intend to spend $350 to buy 10 goats and since they multiply fast, I am confident of fully supporting them in school. This will guarantee them a better future since they will have the opportunity to get decent jobs once they are done with their studies. On the other hand, I intend to install underground water pipes to my home to have easy access to clean and safe water for my household consumption. To offset this water problem, I will spend $200 of my money. The remaining amount will help me to buy new bedding for my family as well as to expand my business."

"I have a family of four members. My husband is a casual laborer and I do a kiosk business. I sell maize flour and other cereals. In a month, I make a profit of $8 and this caters mostly to food and water. The business has gone down due to the drought and famine. People now buy things on credit making me lack even capital to add the stock. I will use $740 to buy a water tank worth 10,000 liters. I want to take advantage of the drought and start to sell clean water in the village. Once the tank is fully of water , I will sell to the community at $0.15 per 20lt plastic. I estimate make a profit of $10 once the project materializes. The market is good because no one else is doing such a business. I will also use $ 300 to add stock to my kiosk business."

"My wife, Paulina aged 66, desires to buy a water tank for harvesting and storing rainwater. I share the same desire because age has taken a toll on her and she cannot go to the river to fetch. Two years ago I bought a tank of 1000 liters capacity but it is not serving well since it is small. I intend to buy a 5000liter tank for $ 350 and I am sure it will be sufficient for the two of us. Receiving this money will put a smile on my wife's face as it will put me in a position to buy her a water tank."

"When I succeed in this project and get the grant, I would love to first create a source of income for myself. I'll start off with a business selling some popular small fresh water fish that are quite marketable in the village. Alongside this, I will also offer other vegetables that can also move around here. According to the estimated cost, I need around $100 to accomplish all that. This money will also help me in paying for my daughter's education which is currently costing $120 each academic term. It would be my wish to even be able to take her beyond high school; probably university or college."

"Because we have been experiencing famine, I prioritized buying food for my family of five members. I am a single mother and opted to spend $100 on food to supplement the little I had for the family. Since I have a daughter, Mercy who is in secondary school, I spent $150 on paying her school fees. I am glad that she is progressing well with her studies. Lastly, I spent the rest on acquiring water for domestic use. We have a water shortage owing to drought issues. I am so glad that since my enrollment in the program, my children have comfortably been learning, and I do not struggle as I used to."
