"The biggest difference is that fact that our living standards as a family have been lifted. We no longer struggle to make ends meet like we used to do. This is because there is supplementary income from the dairy cow that I bought. My sawmilling business have been greatly boosted as well. I feel much more relaxed as the head of the family and my family too are happier than they were before we received the money. We look forward to receiving the second transfer to be able to accomplish much more bigger things and better our living standards. My family and the entire village is very grateful for this assistance." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"I used part of the second transfer to purchase a motorcycle at a cost of KES 35000. My main motivation for purchasing the motorcycle was to sort the challenges of walking for a longer distance in search of water, especially during drought. In such periods, we are usually forced to leave the house as early as 4:00 am in search of water only to come back later in the evening. With the motorcycle, I can carry enough water for the family in one trip. Besides that, I also operate taxi services with the motorcycle. This is an additional income alongside the charcoal business which I have been operating for some years. The money I make from the motorcycle comes in handy when it comes to meeting the daily household needs like food. I am so proud my family looks healthy because we can afford a whole day's nutritive meal."

"I took a loan of KES15000 from my Chama to purchase a motorcycle and the monthly payment is KES1500. The motorcycle has enabled me to earn a living. This puts me in a better position to meet my children's needs. Using 300 from my first transfer, I paid their school fees, I then topped up the amount I had with KES440 to pay for the loan I took and the remaining KES460 was what I used to purchase food. As for my second transfer, I used KES1500 to again pay for the loan, and the remaining 1500, I used to clear the school fee arrears." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"I am a motorcycle taxi rider, am blessed with a wife and three children, I used to work on a rented bike before, where I would pay the owner at least KES 300 per day, this was so difficult because a time I would be left with nothing to take home afterwards. upon receiving my transfer, I prioritised purchasing a second-hand motorcycle so that I would have a reliable source of income, therefore I used KES 40,000, I then used KES 5000 on farming, lastly, I used the remaining amount in buying foodstuffs and clothes for my family. I am happy and relieved that I now have a reliable source of income, with my bike I am optimistic that I would be able to see my children through school." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"My husband and I were diagnosed with ulcers and high blood pressure three years ago. We have been in and out of hospital and this has drained our resources as most of the money we get goes to the medication. We currently can not afford better health care because of lack of reliable source of income as we only depend on our son who is a motorcycle rider within the village earning 300 KES per day."

"I have been burning charcoal to earn a living for six-year now. This job is not easy sometimes time I get burning sores that hinder me from working for some days. My husband who is a partial driver earns three hundred Kenya shillings every two days. When we combine our efforts are still not sufficient to serve the family of five, It is sad to see very young children taking one meal in a day. My neighbors are tired of us seeking help almost every day. Therefore food insecurity has been my challenge." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)
