Kazungu
received a $28 ninth payment.
"As I said earlier I have started construction since I did not have a house of my own and was living in my brothers. I have already started building and used some of my December transfers on roofing. I am also directing an amount from my wages to contribute towards this project. I hope to finish this house this year with the support of GiveDirectly transfers. I also have been buying animals with my previous months transfers and now have 3 goats and 5 chicken. I hope to increase this heard this year and become an animal farmer which will in turn become a business that helps me take care of my family."

Sidi
received a sixth payment.
"I do not want my granddaughter to miss out on school because of finances. My plan is to save for three months to cover her school fees needs as this is her last year in school. She is required to pay 90 dollars per term as school fees and if I save 30 dollars of my monthly transfers I will be able to achieve this. I also hope to add chicken over a period of months to create sort of an emergency fund for the family. Some days we do not have money but if we have maybe chicken we can sell and use the money to sort out the food or any other needs that arise."

Jumwa
received a $28 sixth payment.
"When I fell sick and stopped making charcoal to raise money for my needs, my son took up the mantle of providing for the family. Working as a motorcyclist, sometimes he makes just enough for one meal a day or does not make anything at all. Therefore, hunger is a major issue in the household, followed by a lack of school fees. When I received the transfer, schools were almost resuming and my two children had pending tuition debt from last year. I decided to clear the balance of $10 so that they would never miss on learning. I spent $9 on food my family had taken nothing the entire day. I used the remaining $15 to buy a goat for rearing to replace my cow that had died from drought last year. From December’s transfer, I bought two chickens worth $10 for rearing, paid my medical expenses of $7 since my condition was deteriorating, spent $7 on food, and saved the rest through a self-help group. $10 from November’s transfers went towards the purchase of chickens and the remaining $24 went towards food. Am glad that I own poultry and a goat, courtesy of the transfers, that will help generate school fees for my children in the future. "

Changawa
received a $28 tenth payment.
"Am glad that the recent transfer allowed me to complete constructing my two-room mud-walled house that had stagnated since last year. I finally could afford to pay the constructor $15 from the transfer to finish the exercise. Before, raising these funds was hard given that I have no source of income. Thankfully, I am now settled into the new house and enjoying my new space, thanks to Give Directly. I spent the remaining $19 on food since the household had run out of maize flour. Besides, my son who works as a casual laborer in Mombasa had not sent me money to buy more food. Gladly, the food I bought lasted my three grandchildren and me until the day he sent cash. From November’s transfer, I deducted $5 to buy a chicken, which I have been rearing to date. I hope it breeds into a larger flock in the future to help me raise cash. I spent the remaining money from November’s transfer on food as well. "

Kadzo
received a $28 sixth payment.
"In the next year and beyond, I hope to have bought two goats to increase my herd to nine goats. Since I started receiving the transfers, I have not been able to buy an animal bigger than a chicken because of the hunger situation in the household. Although things are still tough, I believe that I will be able to save throughout the year until I afford the two goats. After that is done, I plan to start saving for a cow as well. "

Lucy
received a $28 sixth payment.
"My children used to use plastic bags as their back pack to school and it really affected their self esteem. I spent $14 to buy them a school bag and they were extremely joyful and thanked God for all the blessings. I decided to join a merry go round where we have to put aside $10 every month. I was able to join the merry go round because of GiveDirectly's monthly transfer and due to the merry go round, I was able to buy more chicken and goats. The remaining $10 I was able to buy food for my entire family."

Dama
received a $28 sixth payment.
"I am confident that once my house is finished, I will start a business of selling chicken by purchasing them in large numbers. Before, I was raising 50 chickens but a disease stuck and killed every fowl I owned. I wish to start that business because it's inexpensive to start and one can easily make a ton of money from that business and better one's life. I believe that the future is bright because the little things I do will make a big impact in my life."

I have also been able to get some bonuses such as being able to buy chicken and goats. I now have 3 goats and 12 chicken in my pen which is a joy."

Amina
received a $28 tenth payment.
"This year, I want to make an investment in my farm by getting a few goats and some chickens in the hopes that it will help me if I ever run into financial trouble. Additionally, I'll use the money to cover the tuition for my nine children who are still in school. The importance of nutrition cannot be overstated, particularly in light of the ongoing drought we are currently facing."
