"The huge hole on the side of my roof that was left when strong winds blew the iron sheets away really frustrates me. Not only does it let in too much light, but also allows a lot of water in when it rains, leaving the space too dump for shelter. Also, being a one room house, it is too small for my husband, our six children, and me. It’s more distressing when I get visitors, because I have to request my mother-in-law to accommodate them. That is why, my mind is at building a new two-room house, made of mud-walls and iron sheet roof. Though I can barely account for the budget as of now, I plan to start saving at least half of each upcoming transfer to complete the project."

"Food and water are both in short supply as a result of the present drought, and the little that is available is exceedingly expensive. While I burn charcoal for sale, my spouse performs any odd jobs that are available in the community. My spouse, our four children, and I make up a family of six, and the income we receive from them is insufficient to support us. I'm glad the assistance has been so valuable. I spent $42 over the last three months' worth of transfers on food and water for my family. I paid $22 in school to pay off the tuition arrears that our four children owed the school. I also bought a goat for breeding for $30. I'm hoping that when it has given birth, I may be able to sell some of the young ones to obtain money for our family's needs, especially for my kids' school expenses."

"We are planning on purchasing some land where we can relocate and stay away from these areas as they are prone to landslides and water flowing from uphill. Even thou we arr not sure where we are going to relocate to, we shall start the searvh immediately we get the money.
We are also planning on buying a cow which we can graze and avail us some milk that we can consume at home and also sell the surplus. Am planning on using about $ 1,111 on land and $ 416 on my cow. Will then use the remaining money to take care of my children."

"I have a family of three members. My husband is old he can no longer work and I am just a housewife. We rely on my daughter who does casual work which lacks the guarantee of getting a job every day. She earns approximately $30 per month. This money caters for food only which sometimes we go without food. Currently I last took food two days ago. I feel dizziness and lack the energy to go and take water from the water tap. Lack of food is the challenge I am currently facing."

"My husband is a casual worker and I am just a housewife. He earns around $20 a month though not every month. I have a family size of four members and we use 2 bags of maize flour per day. My husband's income is low such that we adjusted the daily meal per day. We take one meal per day. Sometimes the family goes without food. A good example is last week, I got only two packets of maize flour the whole week. So I used the flour to prepare porridge for the children and my husband and I spent three good days without food. We survived with water only. Lack of food is the challenge I am facing in life."

"I'm looking forward to finishing the house that my son started. Furthermore, I hope to open a grocery store where I can sell fruits such as papaws, avocados, pineapples, and watermelons, and with the proceeds, I hope to provide a better life for my youngest children than my siblings and I have had."

"I'm a charcoal seller and sometimes , I also sell alcohol . I'm the sole bread winner for my family . Actually I'm not married , so my family is made of my child and I . When I received this money I was so happy because I knew that I would finally solve most of my problems. I have always wished to venture in livestock keeping because they will give birth and I can later sell them to pay school fees for my child . So I spent $160 on four goats . I also had less water storage containers and this would make me suffer during drought . So I wanted to fully secure my water storage capacity . I bought a big water tank worth $120 . Previously , I used to sleep on a rope bed and a mat , and sleeping was so uncomfortable . So I bought a mattress and three bed sheets worth $75 . Getting food for us is usually a tough struggle I wanted to ensure that I buy something that would take us for a long while , hence I used $70 to buy one sac of maize flour . I also spent $15 on a high quality thermos which I now used to keep our tea home. Even when my child wakes up in the morning , I do not have to strain preparing tea that early , because we use the tea I had prepared the previous evening and stored in the thermos . I have saved $15 which I'm planning to buy a beautiful 'Christmas dress' for my child (a dress specifically worn on December 25th) . I'm spending the rest of the money on food items ."
