"In addition to running a barbershop, I recently began a poultry farm that is not yet well established. So far, I have been able to get five fowls and built a little structure for them. However, I desire to see my flock grow in number because that will help improve my way of life. When I confirmed the receipt of my most recent transfer I spent $5 on buying chicken feeds, there has not been food around hence practicing free range could be very risky in terms of exposing them to poultry diseases. I also spent $10 on food for our family of two. My mother does not have a job, therefore I am responsible for taking care of our entire family."

"I haven't had a chance to think of a goal for the year. I however know that I want to add to the five chickens I purchased. I have always wanted goats and chicken that are multiplying and I can sell to add more animals maybe a cow. I will spare some money throughout the year if things are not as hard and buy more animals so that I will have a big herd of goats and a large number of chicken at the end of the day."

"My greatest goal is to start a chicken-rearing project. I would like to have as many chicken as possible so that in the near future, I would no longer have challenges when it comes to getting food and paying school fees for my children because the sales from the chicken would be a great income. I plan to buy 2 chicken every month worth $10 with the transfers that I’ll still be receiving and at the end of a certain period, I would have attained my target of the number of poultry I plan to have."

"After I am done with my house construction. My goal is to start a livestock-rearing project in the next few months. I would want to have goats, chicken and cows so that I become one of the greatest livestock keepers in the area. To achieve this, I would want to ensure that I buy at least one goat per month costing $25 and within a year, I know I would have around 12 goats which I would later sell part of them to buy cattle and chicken."

"I am a mother of six children, four of them are in school and two of them are yet to join. I know the importance of providing for my family because my husband is currently unemployed and does casual work when called upon to do so. I really thank GiveDirectly so much because, ninety five percent of times, we normally survive on the monthly income we receive. Life is difficult and even affording a proper meal is becoming so difficult. I am currently taking care of my goats, sheep and chicken so that they can grow big and I sell them and make huge profit. With the recent transfers, I spent $14 to stock for food at home so that it can feed us for some weeks and the remaining amount of $20 I was able to pay for my children who are both in primary and secondary their fees.I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure my children have a bright future. I believe with education they can open doors that will lead them to greater heights and they will not forget all my sacrifices, and they will come back and help me when I am old."

"I aim to get additional animals using GD transfers. I have some 10 goats and 15 cows. I have seen that animals are a good investment especially when you are in a financial problem. I want to add further to my flock by buying more goats and chickens. This will remind me of the financial support GD gave and act as an emergency investment for any future needs. Animals reproduce easily, that means that one goat today can be three goats tomorrow. If I am in a financial corner and need of an amount selling a goat gives me $3 which is a lot of money and can help a great deal."

"As I had said we are struggling as a family especially with the drought and the high cost of living. I have 5 children in school and their school fees per tem is about $190. My child in secondary schoo, form one requires the most money at $150 per term, while the youngest requires the least at $5 per term. We plan as a family to use the GD transfers to cover payment for school fees for this children to ensure they are able to attend school without fail. I also have a plan of getting chicken and goats. These animals are profitable since they procreate fast and can easily be sold for cash."

"As I said, I have been struggling to meet my daily needs due to my lack of work. I also separated from my husband, this laid the whole burden of myself and child on me. I ave a small business selling foods such as local doughnuts, also known as 'mahamri' to try and make ends meet. I however need a source of income that can make money even when I cannot make money through working due to illness. I want to add more animals, goats sheep, chicken, which I can sell in the hopes of making some money for use."

"My family of twelve people (my mum, wife, seven children, and two grandchildren) entirely depend on my provision. I take on different casual jobs in house construction and bicycle repair to cover household expenses. However, my low income does not provide enough food or settle school fees for my children.  In fact, when I received the money, three of them had missed classes for three days due to overdue tuition of $10. I immediately settle it and they resumed classes. Additionally, there was no food at home, and spent $4 on maize flour. I saved the remaining amount of $20, which I plan on using to purchase chickens and pay more fees for my kids. "

"What I wish for is for my four children to study up to their desired level of education. However, since I lack a reliable source of income, am worried that if I do not establish an investment out of the transfer, I may not be able to finance their education. Through future cash transfers, I wish to acquire goats and chickens. Am confident that as these animals breed and increase in number, so as my wealth increases. In the future, I can sell them to support my children. "
