"I am a motorcycle taxi rider unfortunately, I was recently involved in a road accident that left me with broken limbs and a neck fracture. My spouse is, therefore, the sole breadwinner but the little money she makes from her small business cannot meet all our household needs. We are in the planting season currently, and we had not raised money for the seeds. I, therefore, spent KES 1000 on 4 kilograms of hybrid maize seeds. KES 1000 I spent on both corn and more. I still go to clinics after the accidents KES 1000 facilitated both my transport and the doctor's fee." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

When I started to receive money from GiveDirectly, I decided to buy a motorcycle because I know it would help me financially. I will save my next two transfers to buy a motorcycle."

"I have a motorcycle taxi which I bought on credit. Despite the fact that I have not finished paying, I have managed to pay the debt one year successfully and I have four months to go. This motorcycle has helped me get money to buy food for my family. Bouncing back from closing down my business last year and being able to support my family makes me very happy." "Since I separated with my husband 6 months ago, I have been living with my parents. Life has not been easy for us especially in meeting our basic needs, mostly food. My parents are too old to be actively involved in providing for the family. As a result, we have always depended on my brother who works as a motorcycle rider for food. Not to be a burden to him, I also started a small coconut selling business in the market to boost his income with a loan of KES 2000 I got from a friend. I have been paying back the loan for the last 2 months but I have only managed KES 600. I still owe KES 1400 which am yet to pay. This is the reason I used KES 800 from my transfer of KES 1200 to boost the business by adding more stock of coconut. Through this, I know I will sell more, earn more and be able to pay back the loan and support my brother well in providing for the family. The remaining KES 400 from my transfer, I used to buy 4kg of maize flour to boost the little stock of food we had left in the house. At least, I am sure in the next two weeks, we will have at least a meal for my family."

"The difference in my daily life since I received my transfer is the upgrade on my clothes that made me feel more confident about my self and not ashamed to mingle or visit my friends.I am no longer the talk of the village because of my torn and old clothes. My goal is to buy building materials every month and support my husband to have our own home.Currently my husband works in repairing motorcycle tyres and he makes atleast KES 50 per tyre which can barely afford a meal for our small family of three members and we have been forced to live the same house with my father in law.My goal is at the end of the support program am able to move to my own home which will earn my husband his respect from the village as a man."

"The issue of improving my roof has been postponed due to my financial status. I have always wanted to improve the leaking rusty roof and upgrade my living standard. I spent a large portion of my transfer of KES 1800 to buy two pieces of ironsheets.Due to lack of food in my household ,the rest KES 1200 was spent on food items for my family.Currently I have one child but have been supporting my younger brothers and sisters.Working as a motorcycle rider is a challenge when the business is on the low, am forced to go home with nothing because at the end of each day my employer expects a consistent portion of KES 200 per day" (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)
