"My goal is to build an electrical shop where I will sell electrical goods and where potential consumers may meet me once I have finished school and taken my final exam in August. I want to do this by setting aside some of the monthly transfer and money earned from working on casual jobs. Additionally, I want to raise my chicken from the present 20 to somewhere around 50. After raising these chicken for a while and ready for maket, I'll sell them and buy a young cow to raise instead."

"I used $11 to pay the debt I had from the hardware stores, where I had taken 21 pieces of iron sheets to cushion the part of the house that had fallen due to strong winds, and some were for building a new house. So far, the house I am building is almost done, and it has cost us $20 so far. This means so much to me as a father with five children living under one roof. It has been difficult all along, and we have been trying our best to save some money so we could build a room for them with no success. On the other hand, some years ago, while I was doing my carpentry work, some thieves just walked in and took all my tools. I could not do my daily jobs as usual, and this affected our household income. When I received the transfers from GiveDirectly,I used $10 to replace the carpentry tools. This has brought back the motivation in me to pursue more different designs in carpentry work, with my family having so much trust in me. Finally, I had to spare some money so I could purchase chickens. I spent $15 on them, which would save me a lot, especially when I have visitors coming home and I do not plan on spending much on them. In terms of financial income, I will be in a position to sell them and cushion myself financially when need arises."

"I hope to start a poultry project that will generate some income in the coming year and beyond. I've been unable to walk for the past eight years due to an illness that left me physically disabled. I was working as a driver for a company when I was laid off and had to relocate to the village due to illness. Since then, I've been on medication and relying solely on my wife, who has had to work in odd jobs like burning and selling charcoal, and she has since become the breadwinner because I no longer do any physical labor. We have four young children under our care, as well as two grandsons, whose mother is also mentally ill. Despite my condition, my greatest ambition is to one day have a poultry project that will at least generate some income and that I will be able to manage effectively on my own. I intend to purchase chickens and allow them to reproduce, which will keep me occupied rather than waiting for my wife to provide and seeing her overwhelmed by so many household needs. I can easily sell the chickens to help her meet her basic needs, such as food, as well as pay school fees for the grandchildren, who are in primary school."

"My goal is to establish a stable source of income that will sustain my family even after the cash transfers cease. One way I plan to achieve this is by expanding my existing business of selling fish. I also intend to start selling other products like sardines to diversify my income streams. Furthermore, I aim to venture into livestock farming, starting with the purchase of chickens and gradually expanding into other types of livestock. By pursuing these opportunities, I hope to create a sustainable income stream and wealth for my family and secure our future."

"I owed over 280 dollars in unpaid school fees after completing my secondary education last year. Due to a lack of income-generating activities, my parents, who were my education's sponsors, were unable to pay the school fees, . I am happy that I have been able to contribute $100 so far after being fortunate enough to be accepted into this transfer program. I took it upon myself to use some of the transfer to pay off the arrears. Just like the previous months, 30 dollars of each of the past three months went into the payments of the arrears. I bought a chicken to raise and food with the remaining money."

"Poultry keeping has been our mainstay economic activity and source of livelihood for us. It has salvaged our situation from the adverse food insecurity crisis that we have been facing. Sometimes last December we sold 15 chicken that fetched $80 and we used it to buy maize grains that lasted us for 6 months. It made our lives livable and easy, we were so glad since we never had the stress of looking for foodstuffs unlike in the past when we were struggling to put food on the table."

"After receiving the money, I channeled $10 towards a merry-go-round club, marking the beginning of my savings journey. My goal is to accumulate enough funds to build a better house, as my current structure is in a dire state. One of the walls has crumbled, and the entire house is on the verge of collapsing. Am confident that by the time the cash transfers cease, I will have built my house. Aside from that, I want to use the savings to buy a decent wooden bed and mattress, as the current sisal-twined bed requires an upgrade. After saving, I purchased a chicken for $3 intending to let it breed. Am certain that once the chickens mature, I could sell them to generate income. I am optimistic about the prospects of this small poultry venture and it is all courtesy of Give Directly. Also, I cleared a debt of $5 at my grandchild's school. Am happy that since her tuition is now fully settled, she will study comfortably for the rest of the term. The remaining amount was supported in providing food for the family as the household had run out of the same. I am grateful for the cash transfers, as they provide a crucial lifeline and support for my family."

"When I received my second unconditional transfers I decided to embark on a journey of tomato farming, ultimately transforming the lifestyle of my struggling family of three. On the face of adversity, I recognized the potential of agriculture as a means to secure a sustainable income and uplift my family. I decided to allocate about $300 of the unconditional transfers towards tomato farming, a venture that held promise and opportunity. I also used $15 of the unconditional transfers to purchase five chickens, a move that brought multiple benefits to our family. Not only did the chickens provide a consistent supply of fresh eggs, but they also served as a potential source of additional income through the sale of eggs or breeding. I also made sure that I have stocked up enough food in the house since it has been so hard to secure a meal in a day and I wanted to change that narrative in my household, I bought food worth $40 that i still had and i hope it will be enough for us in the next three weeks."

"My aim for the next few years is to purchase at least four cows. These cows will serve multiple purposes, such as assisting with plowing exercises on our farm and potentially being hired out to others for additional income. I also aim to expand my business further, focusing on buying and selling chickens. I have six children, five of whom are currently attending school. Unfortunately, one of my children has been unable to join secondary school for the past two years due to financial constraints. By growing the business, I hope to earn more and be able to enroll my son in high school, as I support his siblings. "
