"I am a mother of four children and I am a single parent. I lost my husband some time ago and was left as the sole breadwinner of my family. I thank Givedirectly for the transfers they provided as they allowed me to take care of school fees and food for my family. I spent $15 in March and April on school fees and in May I got two new uniforms for two of my children at $20. I also used $15 in March and April for food while I used $10 in May since most of the funds went into taking care of uniforms for my children. I was also able to buy chicken with the remaining $4 in March and April at $2 each. In May I bought some soap and body oil for the children to ensure they went to school well kept."

"I have currently planted maize in my farm with the aim of harvesting for food. I am hoping to harvest a sufficient amount that I hoped would be used for feeding the family. This will allow me to redirect the monthly expenditure on food to purchase goats and chicken for rearing. I want to be able to remember this project even once it comes to an end and also have an investement that will allow me to take my children to school and feed them."

"I have a strong desire to increase my investments in cows and chickens. I am already involved in these ventures, but I would love to expand my investment further in order to save money for my children's future, specifically to cover their secondary education fees. By investing more in these areas, I hope to secure the financial resources necessary to support my children's educational journey."

"Around 10 months ago, I started chicken farming and I have been expanding it slowly. So far I have close to 30 chickens and I intend to have an additional 10. I am keeping the improved Kienyeji chicken since I can sell both the chicken and eggs whenever a need arises. From my May transfer, I spent $16 from it to buy chicken feed for my flock. My plan is that once these chickens are mature, I will sell them for an income which will go a long way in achieving the goals that I have one being building a new house.I spent the rest of the transfer to pay school fees for my two primary school children and to buy food for $10 and $8 respectively. I am glad that my children have not been sent back home due to unpaid fees so far and this has given them ample time to concentrate on their studies."

"The moment I received the unconditional transfers, a great sense of relief washed over me. I had been carrying the weight of a school fees debt, which seemed to grow larger with each passing day. I wasted no time in settling the outstanding debt of $100. Knowing that my family's well-being was of utmost importance, I allocated $ 90 towards purchasing food for the month. No longer would we have to worry about going to bed on an empty stomach or compromising our nutrition. The reassurance of having enough food to sustain us brought a renewed sense of hope and stability to our household. During this time, my jobless son, who had recently become a father, was struggling to make ends meet. I felt compelled to support him and his new family, so I gifted him $50 With a portion of the funds remaining, I decided to invest in a small poultry project. I purchased three chickens with Ksh 1,050, envisioning it as a stepping stone towards a sustainable income source and I also set aside Ksh 1,000 to purchase two plastic chairs. These chairs, though seemingly modest, brought a sense of dignity and comfort to our home."

"I have wanted to farm animals for a while by my money making activities couldt fetch enough to facilitate this dream. I have now bough a goat and own about 3 chicken which I hope to build on. I want to use the transfers once I harvest and can provide food from my farm, to buy goats and chicken as an investment which I can build upon to act as an emergency fund but also as a business in the long run."

"My goal is to first harvest the crops I planted and this will mean my family gets food and I may just end up with some surplus that I can sell for gain. I also aim on adding afew more animals such as chicken and goats and this is because I want to have something to remember this project by. I want that once the 5 years are done I can still see the proceeds from this transfers and animals stand as the best memorabilia to have and also they will earn me some money as they reproduce."

"I never got a chance to go to school and I my opportunities to work are quite limited hence I mostly farm or sell food items to my fellow villagers. I however do not want my children to end up like me. I believe education can open alot of doors for them and since most are girls I would really love for them to at least get a secondary school education. I have been buying goats and chicken with the transfers and I hope to continue doing so until I am able to have a big number where I can sell them and ue the proceeds to pay school fees for my 6 school going children."

"For a long time, I relied on my husband for everything, despite the fact that he does not have a stable job. He works casual construction jobs that are unpredictable and low-paying. Some days he can stay without a job, making it difficult to feed our children. To lessen his burden, I plan to buy more chickens every month until I have a fully operational poultry project in the coming year and beyond. It's easier for me to manage on my own and doesn't require much expertise. I've bought a few chickens so far and hope to buy more as time goes on. I can easily sell the chickens to fund my children's education as well as other financial obligations."

"Whenever I receive cash transfers, I usually allocate $20 towards a merry-go-round savings group, intending to eventually purchase a decent wooden bed and a comfortable mattress. Currently, I sleep on a sisal-twined bed, which is uncomfortable and unpleasant. Owning a proper bed would greatly improve my sleeping conditions. After setting aside funds for the bed, I spend the remaining amount on essential expenses such as food, school fees, or livestock. Fortunately, when I received the recent cash transfer, my household had enough food for the next few days. Also, all four of my children's school fees had already been covered for the term through previous cash transfers. With these needs taken care of, I decided to allocate $10 towards purchasing four chickens for rearing, and the rest of the funds were used to buy additional maize flour to boost the little left. I am grateful that my children can study without interruptions, my household rarely experiences a lack of food, and now I have started my poultry-keeping practice thanks to GiveDirectly's support."
