"I want to buy goats, I have a number of chicken and goats which I rear but I want to buy more goats. Goats are much more resilient that even chicken. I want my goats to procreate and multiply so I can sell and get money to educate my children. I have two children who soon will be going to school and I feel the need to be prepared for when they begin school. I also want to put up a grocery shop where I will sell vegetables and get an income as now we depend fully on my husband who is a motorcycle rider."

He earns approximately $100 per month which caters for food. The piece of land I am living has a debt of $300 that is overdue. I will use $300 to clear the debt and also build a two room house at $700. Currently I can not have visitors since I lack a house to accommodate them. I will also use $30 to start rearing chicken for business."

Rachel
received a $129 initial payment.
"My creditors were on my neck since I had an outstanding debt of KES 10,000 by the time that I received my first transfer. With it, I was able to use KES 8000 to pay my debtor. After prioritizing this, I spent KES 6,000 to purchase a sack of maize for our consumption and used KES 500 to transport it home. In addition, I bought two chickens at 700 for rearing, used KES 500 to buy millet seeds for planting, and spent the remaining amount on other food items."

Tsetse
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I want to utilize the following transfer to fix a door to my house for security reasons now that I have finished restoring my collapsed house, which was a huge issue. I will then be relieved to focus on establishing a goat and chicken-rearing business. I regard these endeavors as potential sources of money because I do not have anybody else to rely on for support. I may raise money by selling the cattle as they grow and use the proceeds to cater to my multiple needs and expenses, mainly food. I will have a more reliable source of income and financial freedom thanks to this project."

Hamisi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"This chicken project is the big picture project for me. I own over 70 chicken and these are in good health due to the way we feed them and make sure they have medicine whenever need arises. I do not want to start on another project before this actually starts to bring in a profit. My aim is to continue investing in this chicken business until it can stand on its own then maybe do other things after. I want the earnings to help me take care of my children in terms of food and education. My wife's business is also doing well and I hope it grows furteher."

"As I said I could no longer continue with my charcoal business after getting a diagnosis from a doctor as I had been sick for quite some time. As I said I also have three school going children and their getting a decent education is key for me. My plan is to use this transfers to ensure they get through school. I also want to buy a couple more goats and maybe chicken that I can rear."

Mwenda
received a $25 tenth payment.
"As I said earlier I am a mother of 3 going children with a very limited income. I would love for my children to pursue an education which I never had a chance to do. As you hear I am struggling to even converse in Kiswahili. I want my children to have better opportunities than I did. I plan to continue to use my transfers to educate them while still building a flock of chicken which will act as an emergency fund in future."

Elizabeth
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My husband and I do not have a reliable source of income to fully support our family, and I have always wished to have a project or any reliable source of income. Therefore, my main goal is to have a chicken-rearing project. I had already bought around four chicks to start off, and I plan to buy more egg-laying chicken every month I get my transfers bearing in mind that they would lay eggs, multiply and eventually have a market for both."

Ndoko
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal was to be one of the greatest livestock rearers in the area. After reflecting on the situation at my home, I wanted to start a project that would help generate income for my family so that they would no longer experience the financial challenges and they had before. I had so far started buying livestock (chicken and goats) with part of my previous transfers, and my focus is to continue saving on most months as I also buy the livestock on some of the months."
