"My husband died and left me in a bad and small house and the termites had eaten the timber and it was almost falling off, so most of the GD transfer I used in building my house, and also my daughter is finishing her primary education in the next 2 months so I saved some of the money too to help out in sorting her joining high school next year"

"Having been a window taking care of my children alone has been a struggle mainly when my two children joined their high school education .Now I am happy seeing them go to school with ease since I spent my third transfer on paying school fees for them as before the transfer they were almost being school drop-out due to a lump-sum school fees arrears they had .I bought a bag of maize for my family consumption.I also paid deposit for a solar lamp and now my children are able to study comfortable at night without any worries of the paraffin getting exhausted from the traditional lantern."

"I had two children in secondary who dropped out of school for lack of school fees and give way for the third one who was in college to clear before they could continue given that I did not have the money to do so, so when I received my third transfer, I spent on taking them both back to school. I am hopeful that they will clear their secondary education. The one in college has also cleared her catering course, and I am happy she is already taking up some jobs to sustain her. I am grateful for GiveDirectly."

received a $467 third payment.
"I am a university student undertaking a self sponsored program. I used to be stressed up on where I would get money to pay for the remaining years of my college education. Immediately I got the money I decided to pay a whole year worth of fees in my school. I am no longer stressed up about the fee issue. The remaining part of the money I used to buy cattle which will eventually give birth to little ones and then I will resell them so as to get a continued source if income."

"I spent my third transfer to complete a house I had started constructing using my second transfer. I used to stay in my brother's house and I thought of having my own house too. I also paid school fees for my sister who is almost, finishing his secondary education. My brother had been paying the fee since she joined secondary school, so when I received this money I thought I should relieve him. I paid a one year's school fees for my sister. The remaining I spent on food for my own consumption and a bed too as I did not have one."

"When I received my third transfer, I had very huge school fees arrears for my son in form two. His line of education had never been that much easy despite being motivated to learn. In most occasions, he would stay home and help me work in other peoples' farms in order to raise him some cash for fee. We were so happy when we received this money since it would enable the son get back to his studies without any more interference. Other than the fee issue, I also lacked proper bedding. The bed my late spouse had purchased more than 10 years ago had broken down. I therefore had to spread a mat on the floor where we spent our nights. Coming over to the living room, I had not even a single seat where one could find a rest. In cases of a visitor's presence, we would turn a jerrycan upside down to serve as a seat. That was exactly what I did when GD staff visited me. I therefore spent a portion of the transfer on purchasing a sofa set as well. I thank GD for this far it has brought me."
