Kazungu
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I pray that the current rainy season takes us to the harvesting time. Should we receive a good harvest from the farms, my goal would be to save my transfers and use them to boost my livestock farming venture. Now I have seven goats, and I long to buy and raise more goats. I value them because they are hardy and can withstand our varying weather patterns compared to sheep and cows. In addition, they are valuable and can easily fetch me some income in case of an emergency."

"The excitement within me is palpable as I eagerly await my turn to receive the funds from my savings group. With this money in hand, I have plans to purchase a male cow that will prove instrumental in assisting with the harvest. This cow will bring strength and support to our farming efforts, ensuring a smoother and more productive harvest season. I am filled with anticipation and gratitude for the opportunity to invest in such a valuable asset that will contribute to the success of our farming endeavors."

"My priority once I receive this money is to invest it in business. This is because I have for a long time depended on farming, a venture which is not reliable due to the unpredicted weather patterns. Starting a business especially, a kiosk to sell general products is what I consider my plan and I wish to spend utmost $200 as my starting capital. This will guarantee me the opportunity to focus on business and avoid spending my time on charcoal work. In addition, I will also buy 2 indigenous dairy cows to also act as my long-term project. This will cost me $300. The remaining amount will go into settling other basic needs like buying new beddings, food, and school fees. Hence, this is generally what receiving this money means to me."

Janet
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I am a single mother with three children and two are school going. I live in my parents house and I depend on my mothers farming for income. I also have a grocery business which also supplements her income. I would like to get other sources of income as well as support my mothers farming. My plan is to get two cows by end year each at $20, a male and female cow. The male cow will mainly help with ploughing the farm lands. The dairy cow can be milked and the milk sold for profit. I also believe the dairy cow will also get calves which will add to our flock."

Mwanamisi
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My children are now home since I had not paid their school fees recently. I do not want a repeat of this in the future. I am saving in an informal savings group to buy goats and cows. My aim is to rear this animals and since they multiply when well taken care of. I hope to have a good number of animals that I can sell in such situations to have enough to settle my children's school fees balance. I hope to ensure that my children finish school and get a good chance at life through getting a good education."

Dama
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"I currently want to invest in raising livestock, mainly goats. I decided on goats since they can handle the harsh climatic condition in our area, they are less expensive to buy than cows, and there is a ready market for them when it comes time to sell. Due to the famine situation, it is challenging to accomplish this all at once, so I came up with a plan to buy at least three hens with each transfer. Thereafter, I will trade them for goats since seven chickens are considered equivalent to a goat."

"Since we live in an area that is often affected by drought, getting food for the family and livestock feeds i.e goat, sheep and cow had always been a major challenge since everything dries up, and with that situation, I decided to venture into chicken rearing because getting their feeds had never been difficult. The transfers had been of great help in starting up the project and with the most recent one, I bought two chicks worth $10 and spent the remaining $24.7 on food for my family, and ever since GiveDirectly started giving us the support, my family had been getting something to feed on and I am forever grateful."

"I am now a father of one. I had no family when Givedirectly came in but now things have changed. I need to put a lot of focus on nurturing my young family. I am also not working at the moment as my employer asked me to take time off after my wife gave birth. I want to build a sustainable business through animal rearing that I can depend on when need arises. I want to use my savings to buy animals maybe goats which will multiply and I cans ell to get a dairy cow whose milk I can sell and get income. I also want to get a drivers license and so I hope to use the savings to also pursue this by paying for driving school."
