I spent $15 for paying school fees in May for my children, I split this to $5 for each of them. I also bought food worth $19. Furaha
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"The transfers always come in when we need it the most. In the month of April my girls in form one and form four had been sent away from school since we had not paid their school fees, I received my transfers shortly after they arrived and I redirected it to sort out their school fees. I divided $28 equally among them. My children in primary school were also required to register for exams and I also divided $4 among them. The remaining $2 I bough a chicken which now is the source of the eggs we have been enjoying. I may since I had already sorted school I bought a goat at $30 and then used $4 to get flour and sugar. I was again required to pay school fees for the girls in secondary school in June and so I sent $15 to each of them and then bought flour for those at home as the money came in when we had nothing in the house in terms of food."

Emaline
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I have been working in a grocery store as a shop attendant and I have had a chance to observe the way it has been with that business. The business does so well because the drought has made us reliant on buying our food. My hope is to start a grocery shop of my own. Probably start with potatoes and work my way up to other goods. I believe having this business will give me a chance to focus my finances on educating my children. I will also be able to add some more animals, I have bought some goats and chicken and I hope to add to this maybe buy some more goats and chicken which I can always sell when they reproduce and become many."

Safari
received a $25 tenth payment.
"I currently reside in a small house with my two children. Unfortunately, due to the limited space available, three of my children are living with their grandmother. To support my family and work towards a brighter future, I have taken up selling chewing sticks at Mariakani. By diligently saving from my earnings, I aim to accumulate enough funds to initiate my own project. Additionally, I intend to invest in chicken farming as another avenue for income generation. With careful planning and perseverance, I am determined to improve our living conditions, bring my family back together, and create a more secure and prosperous future for all of us."

Shabani
received a $25 tenth payment.
"Once an active motorcycle driver, my life took an unexpected turn when I suffered a severe accident, resulting in broken arms. While recovering from this unfortunate incident, I have been contemplating new opportunities to secure my financial future. One idea that has caught my interest is investing in chicken. I plan to purchase chickens and nurture them, patiently waiting for the right time to exchange them for goats. By carefully managing this investment, I hope to accumulate enough value that can be utilized during challenging times, such as paying off any outstanding debts that may arise. This strategic approach will not only help me recover from my current setback but also pave the way for a more stable and resilient future."

Jumwa
received a fourteenth payment.
"I spent a portion of the recent transfers on paying fees for my granddaughter, who is currently in junior high school. Her mother passed away and has been relying on me for her fees. Her father could have helped, but he also abandoned her. I am now responsible for her education, but raising her fees has been difficult. I am sick and elderly, and I am no longer working like before, where I could earn some money through menial jobs. I was worried that my granddaughter would be discontinued due to the fee arrears. After receiving the transfers, she has been attending school because I paid her fees on time. I am no longer concerned about her education because I can now pay her monthly tuition. In addition to fees, the recent transfers have also enabled me to purchase some iron sheets for the construction of a house. I had one, but it collapsed many years ago and since then I have been seeking shelter from neighbors at night. I resolved to buy some iron sheets every month until I have enough to start the construction. I will be happier having my own home where I can live peacefully rather than relying on the homes of my neighbors. I also used part of the transfer to purchase foodstuffs such as maize flour and $5 to purchase two chickens, which I am currently keeping on my homestead. I can also rely on the chickens to pay for my granddaughter's fees as she continues with her studies."
