"The cash transfers have come at an opportune time when I need it the most. At the moment there are no rains and whenever it rains it's not enough for us to plant and harvest. This has led to a lack of food. I have a great plan of purchasing enough food to take me for months up to the end of the year. I plan to purchase a bag of maize, some beans, Ground nuts, and other household needs such as cooking oil and sugar. I intend to use about $150 of the transfers to accomplish this. In addition to this, I plan to fence my farm. This is because livestock such as goats and cows have been disturbing me and I cannot even plant vegetables. With the transfers, I plan to use $450 of the transfers to accomplish this. For the remaining transfers, I plan to save them for the future so that I can purchase food and other needs that will arise. I'm very grateful to GiveDirectly for the assistance they have brought us. This will improve my life positively."

"Over the next two years, my main aspiration is to construct a better and more stable house for my family. Our current structure is unstable and due to the ongoing rains, I fear it may not withstand the rains much longer. To work towards this goal, I have been diligently saving a portion of the previous cash transfers, and I plan to continue doing so until I have accumulated enough funds to purchase the necessary building materials. Providing my children with a secure and comfortable living environment is of utmost importance to me. I also have a long-term goal of acquiring livestock such as cows and goats. These animals can serve as a valuable asset and a potential source of additional income for our family. If we encounter any financial challenges, such as a lack of school fees, I can consider selling some of the animals to cover these expenses and other needs that may arise."

"I used to have livestock but when the drought persisted I took my livestock to Arabal in Mochongoi in search for water and pasture little did I know that was going to be the genesis of my problems. It did not take long before the bandits from pokot strike and took away all my livestock comprising of 42 cows and 190 goats leaving me with nothing but abject poverty. The events shook me to the core, it took me along time to come to terms with it. It is then that I came to the village to reconstruct my life but it has never been easy. We are grappling with a serious challenge of food insecurity, putting food on the table is an uphill task. This has been further worsened by the ever increasing cost of living. So worse is the situation that I have no idea where the next meal will come from, mark you I fend for an elderly mother who is also sickly.Life is hard and unbearable."

"My main goal is to engage in livestock-rearing project. With the tough times ahead and owing to the fact that I have a large family of 8 children, getting money to cater for their needs would be a great challenge for my husband and I. Therefore, I would want to venture into something that would help generate income in the long run and I plan to buy goats with the transfers that I would be getting and later sell some of them to buy cows and with the livestock in place, I am assured that I would be in a better place to even educate my children with ease."

"The transfer will be of immense help. I have a lot to do but I must also plan well to avoid wastage. A good plan will set me towards sustainability. Due to the hard-hitting drought, I must first buy food. I will spend about $60. That will give me food security for at least a month as I focus on other things. Investment is important for sustainability. Goats do well here and expand at a fast rate. I plan to buy 5 goats for $200. By rearing them I will be able to support myself for a longer period. Additionally, I need two cows. They will cost approximately $600. The cows will provide me with milk that can be sold for extra income. It also means saving money meant for buying milk daily. When the cows expand, I can sell them to earn some income. That income will assist me even build a better house in the future. Since I also have a plan to build a better house. I will use the remaining transfer amount to buy some iron sheets."

"As I continue to receive my transfer, I have a goal of adding more goats. They grow fast and will be beneficial to my family in the long run. Once I raise ten goats, I will prioritize selling them to buy a cow. So far, I do not have a single cow. I have never raised one in my lifetime due to my low income. I hope to realize that dream as I continue to receive my transfers."

"I am so glad I am in a savings group. I joined the savings group after Joining the Givedirectly program. I want to get to $15 in savings which we hope to distribute to each person once their turn comes. I want to use this savings to buy a goat or sheep which I believe will contribute building wealth. Animals have a huge turnover in profit which I would like to be part of the beneficiaries. I may even buy a cow which has better returns since I can milk and sell it to the locals."

"I had gone to check on my cows in a nearby grazing field, and I had left my phone at home. When I returned later that evening, I heard my son exclaim joyfully that I had received money from my phone. I was curious as to who might have sent me money or if it had been sent to the wrong person. However, I assumed that GiveDirectly had also promised to send money. When I asked who the sender was, I was overjoyed because it was my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I thanked them because I had tried to raise fees for my son, who is pursuing an ICT course; he was on the verge of missing his exams, and receiving the transfer gave us some hope."
