"I have been living in an old house which was leaking and it was even worse during the rainy season as everything would get soaked with water. When I received my first transfers, I decided to spend part of it in buying building materials to use in building a house for my family and in paying the Marson. I spent part of the remaining amount in buying a dairy calf to since the two cows I had are the traditional ones and do not give enough milk. This cow will also act as an asset which I will use as a remembrance of GiveDirectly. I spent the remaining amount in buying maize seeds, fertilizers and in tilling my farm since it was planting season in my region and I had not even started preparing my land since I did not have any money. I also increased the size of my land under farming from one acre to two acres so as to increase my produce as I have a large family."

"Previously I did not own a cow and I had to buy milk and it was costly for me. It is through the transfer that I was able to buy two cows to keep in my compound and it is a great achievement to me for they are important assets and I will also be getting milk regularly and also earn an income through selling milk. To me this is the biggest difference I've experienced in my daily life."

"GiveDirectly has done well to empower people and help alleviate poverty in the rural setup. Personally, I am very grateful because my life has really improved. I have invested in livestock farming with transfer and i am very proud to graze my cows around. In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done nothing wrong. I would want them to come again and if possible they can add more transfers to us."

"My life has been different, I have now embarked in livestock farming which will now be supplementing my farm produce. I will be able to sell milk from my cows and the profit I get from the sale will plough back on my farm to increase my productivity. My children can learn with ease. Education is the best gift a parent can give to his children."

Daisy received a $523 second payment.
"I got a whole testimony to make about my life. The transfers have just made a total turn around in my life. I have been able to make various investments but one significant one that i will never forget is that of changing from being a casual labourer to being self employed. Before the transfers came, i used to engage in casual labour to earn a living. This gave me very little income that could only sustain us as a family. I now have a sewing machine, a shop and two dairy cows that have made my days busy and more productive. My sense of pride as a responsible parent has been renewed. I am so much indebted to Give directly."

"I spent my transfer on paying college fees for my two children who were taking artisan courses on dress making and welding but had dropped out of their various learning institutions due to fee arrears. I am glad I cleared the outstanding fee and now will at least have something to rely on in future once they finish their training. I also bought a dairy cow which I believe in the near future will be giving us milk and as a result we wont be taking black tea anymore. The remaining part of my transfer was spent on buying school uniforms for my children in primary school because the ones they had were already worn out."

"I spent part of my first transfer to buy iron sheets and other building materials to construct a new house since the old one I used to live had collapsed one night because it was not stable enough to withstand heavy rains. It nearly fell on us that night and from that time then, it posed great danger for anyone to live in it. So from that time, my family has been seeking shelter from neighbours who were willing to accommodate us. However, since GiveDirectly came to our village and offered us the transfers, building a home was the first decision I made and right now, I am in my own house with my family. The transfer has changed my life which I never hoped such a thing to happen. I also spent part of the remaining amount to buy food for my family because sometimes we would skip a meal since I did not have enough money to provide for my family adequately. I am planning to spend the remaining amount to buy a cow to keep in my compound which will later reproduce and retain as an asset to me."
