"I expect my life to improve and become much easier. Once I buy water tank, the several trips to and from the river will be a thing of the past. This will also ensure that I have enough water to drink and for domestic use and cases of bad health because of water will be out. I also expect to buy a cow for rearing that will be a source of milk for use at home and the extra can be sold. I want to enjoy my old age!"

Kache received a $548 initial payment.
"I have never owned my own cows. Instead, a neighbour gave me his so that in return, he pays me for taking care of them. This was quite embarrassing, the fact that you are taking care of livestock yet you do not have your own made the situation worse and occasionally not getting paid for the job. I used to feel pity for myself. When I received money from GiveDirectly, to relieve myself of this kind of embarrassment, I bought my own. I feel I have gotten some little respect as I can now make some decisions regarding the livestock, a voice I did not have before. I am also looking forward to milking them once they give birth for my family consumption. The remaining part of the money went to buying daily food for my family."

"I had built my own house since 1979 and for so many years, I desired to renovate it at least the roof only for it was in bad state and leaking always in case of rains. my financial status was not so good and I couldn't be able to meet the cost of repair. When I received my first transfer, then it was a good opportunity for me to renovate my old house, but I decided to buy enough iron sheets and other building materials to construct a new house. I was happy that I am in a position to meet the full cost of construction and setting up a new home for my family to stay. I am planning to buy a cow on the remaining amount to increase my herd of cattle for this is the activity that boosts my financial status in my area, livestock thrives well for it is semi-arid."

"My life is currently different since I now own a cow. I was able to buy the cow when I received money from my savings in a table banking group where we contribute KES 1000 monthly out of the transfers. We are a group of 20 members and out of it I pocketed KES 40000 and bought a cow. It immediately calved and I now milk about 10 liters of milk. The milk I get has helped me generate an extra income."

"I spent my second transfer on buying livestock, that is two cows and three goats I used to pay as dowry to my in-laws. I also foodstuff to improved my family nutrition. My children are able to access good and timely meals, unlike the past when my children were unable to eat food of balance diet and as a result, suffered from the nutrient deficiency infections like, kwashiorkor and anaemia. Now I am happy that I have a healthy family."

"My past life was a life full of desperation and struggle. Sometimes I could go without meals and this has made me developed ulcers infection, but now my nutrition has improved unlike the past. Nowadays, I am sure of having three meals in a day which was just a dream before. At the same time, I did not have any livestock, but now I have a milking cow and some sheep."

"I spent my second transfer to build a new house because I had a small grass thatched house which leaked from the roof during rainy seasons and made us feel really uncomfortable because the house became very wet and cold. I am now very happy since I have a big iron roofed house and I no longer get worried when it rains instead I trap rainwater from the gutters I fixed on my roof. I also spent my second transfer to buy a dairy cow which I am optimistic that it will soon start producing milk for our consumption. I always buy milk from my neighbours which is very costly and unreliable for our nutritional needs as a family. Having my own now makes me proud and I believe it will bear more calves and in future, I will also be selling milk to get some income."

"I am planning to buy a dairy cow using the money I will get from merry go round and income I will be getting from my school. This is because currently, I am spending a lot of money to buy milk for my family and also for the school. Owning a dairy cow will reduce this cost and will also ensure constant supply of milk to the school and my family. I will be able to save more money and use it to build more classes so as to accommodate more pupils come next year. I really thank Give Directly for the support they have given me."

"In the next four months, I am planning to continue participating in the merry go round and pool my resources that will enable me buy a cow. With ownership of this cow, I am sure I will earn more respect from the community and be able to gather for any unforeseen or foreseen family needs at home. I am also looking forward to paying church tithes to thank God for the much support He has supported me through GiveDirectly."
