"My life currently is different from how it was four months ago in that I now own a dairy cow and a goat. I used to buy milk on a daily basis and sometimes we could miss breakfast when I did not have money. I believe that after some time, my sheep will increase in number and I will sell them and use the money to buy another cow and this will lead to increase in milk production hence I will be able to sell some of them. My family currently feeds well unlike before when they used to have one or two meals a day and my children also get enough milk for their consumption."

"Before GiveDirectly came to my village making ends meet was difficult but now that I am a beneficiary I am motivated to save from the monthly transfers. Therefore, the biggest difference in my daily life is that I am saving 1000 KES on a monthly basis through a table banking sytem with my neighbors. The money I shall have saved I am planning to use on buying a dairy cow which I will sell the milk that comes from it to make an extra coin. This will help me feed my family comfortably."

"My dream is to move away from over reliance on casual jobs to earn a living for me and my family. I am driven by the desire to be self employed. In the next four months, I want to have another additional dairy cow as I focus on full time dairy farming. This I plan to do by continuing to work hard and make sure that I continue contributing without fail towards our merry go round. It is at this time that I expect to be fully engaged in my dairy farming business."

"In the next four months I will be having my turn in merry go round contributions. It is after this contribution that I will sell my cow and add up the money to buy a power saw. It is at this time that I am expecting to be self employed. Power saw costs KES 70 000 and my merry go round contributions will add up to KES 40000. I will sell one cow to meet the extra cost of the power saw."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I used to buy milk for my family and this was very expensive. I decided to borrow a loan from PATNAS Sacco to buy a dairy cow. I am using the transfer from Give Directly to repay this loan. I no longer buy milk like I used to do before. Sometimes I sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other basic needs and even pay school fees for my children in school."

"The big plan right now is to save as much as I can so that I can be able to buy a cow in the near future. It will not be an easy task for me to complete because of the little cash I get every month but I know this mission will be achievable."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to provide food, education and other family basic needs with much ease. I will buy oxen and an ox plough to help in farming so that I am able to cover a larger portion of land in less time. I will also buy a dairy cow so I can sell the surplus milk and increase the family income. I will then save the rest of the cash in table banking. 3 years ago my group was able to start an Mpesa shop, so now with more funds we can start a bigger project that will help us sustain our families. We plan to do vegetable farming in large scale using water pans. "
