"My life is different from how it was four months ago because some financial burden has been eased since my business is picking up so well and I am guaranteed to at least get some money I can use to buy food at the end of the day. I also feel proud that I have two children pursuing their secondary education which assures me their bright future. I honestly thank GiveDirectly for transforming my life."

"My child fell sick sometime back and I did not have money for treatment and I borrowed money in exchange for my piece of land as collateral security to the tune of UGX 800000. So when I received my last transfer I paid of that debt. I paid school fees for my child attending secondary education in the boarding section at UGX 300000. My daughter died and left me with her children whom i'm taking care off so I bought for them uniforms, Books and paid development fee all together UGX 73000. I also bought a calf of UGX 300000 such that it can help me in future when need be. The remaining UGX 160000 I used it for buying household items like soap, bed sheets, utensils and food."

"The biggest difference is that I was able to raise school fees for my children. My daughter had really stayed home long after completing her secondary education. I had no ability to raise her school due to my poor financial status. She had really passed well and needed to join a college to study business administration. The transfers made her dream come true, I got them and paid her college fees. She was at the verge of losing hope in life and almost became a victim of early marriages. Seeing her this way usually broke my heart and I am happier now. My son had just completed her primary education and needed school fees to join secondary school. The transfers catered for all the expenses and school fees. I am a happy mother since I am certain that my children will have a bright future since they got an education."

"The goal I now have is to lease a farm so that I will plant some vegetables and maize. With this, I will be able to sell my produce later and get the money to start a business of buying and selling second-hand clothes. This will enable me to earn more money to use in supporting my children's education."

"I spent my transfers to purchase house hold goods such as clothing, a bed and a mattress. I cleared high school in the year 2016 and I used to live with my mother until she lost her packaging job at a firm that used to export fresh vegetables abroad. My mother then moved to our rural home to concentrate on farming, while I was forced to find my own place here in Mathare. I have been surviving on casual jobs and construction jobs after I lacked school fees to proceed on with my education to college. I also lacked some basic house hold items such as a bed and a mattress as I did not make too much money from these jobs. I used to sleep on the floor on a very old tattered and thin mattress. I am very grateful to Give Directly that now my life is improving and I am living in better conditions now. I also spent part of the transfers to gift my mother some money for her own needs and utilities."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to provide food, education and other family basic needs with much ease. I will buy oxen and an ox plough to help in farming so that I am able to cover a larger portion of land in less time. I will also buy a dairy cow so I can sell the surplus milk and increase the family income. I will then save the rest of the cash in table banking. 3 years ago my group was able to start an Mpesa shop, so now with more funds we can start a bigger project that will help us sustain our families. We plan to do vegetable farming in large scale using water pans. "

"Acquiring the goats is the biggest difference to me as I will keep them as my own assets and through them, I will be saving for the future of my children education. I know that once they reproduce and increase in number I will be able to sell them in case of any financial problem that requires a lot of money."
