What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on steel door, steel windows, labour, poles and timber, as well as expansion of business. I built the house with the first transfer and it was not enough to complete the house. With the steel door and windows, the security of my business would not be compromised. I expanded my business in order to have good profit since the business is paying. This will sustain my family after the program could come to an end.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly gave me opportunity to have a house of my ability. I had a very bad conditioned house and since the resources were inadequate, I was just wishing to have a good house but all was just but a dream. Now I managed to build a decent house that is suitable for the family members. The organization could have conducted financial literature before enrollment process begin. This would promote proper and valuable utilization of the transfer for economic sustainability.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I used to live in a small house with poor condition. I now live in a house that I could not believe to have. I have also expanded the business and it is gainful, and this, I believe will sustain my income for family use.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
I bought building materials (iron sheets, timber, windows, doors and nails) which I used to construct a new house. Previously I had a small old leaking house which was almost falling. I found it risky staying in that house especially during the rainy season because I feared it could fall on us at any time and we couldn't sleep whenever it rained so that in case of anything we could save our lives. Aside from that, the house was also too small to fit my large family and I was forced to keep some of the household items in the kitchen to create more space. I'm now happy and proud to have a decent spacious house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The money was sent at around 3:00 am while I was asleep and usually I place my phone under the pillow. On this day I was awoken by the sound of the phone and upon checking the phone it was Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy that I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night and all that I had in my mind were the plans on how I would spend the money on the things we lacked.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the happiness I have and the feeling of content for having a spacious decent house. All the households currently fit the main house and they are now safe, leaving my kitchen only for cooking. I'm also happy I can afford a comfortable sleep, especially whenever it rains because I'm not afraid anymore of the house falling on us.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that I have been suffering from a heart condition that has hampered my activities making me not to do casual jobs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I go to Awasi market to sell groceries. This makes me happy as it forms part of my livelihood.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy new iron sheets so that I can repair my house and the remaining amount will be invested in my business of selling groceries.
