Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent the promised money a few minutes past 7 pm. This was after I ended a call that I had received from one of my friends since I had been busy and had not heard the message alert when the money was sent. I was filled with joy for being KES 55000 richer knowing that I was making a progress towards achieving my goal.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
It had been my dream to build five rental rooms before the end of this year in our plot that is situated in our nearest shopping centers. I am happy that I have been able to buy some materials without taking a loan as I had planned. This has taken me a step forward in achieving my goal and transforming my life and that of my family and I am grateful to GiveDirectly for being responsible for this achievement so far.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have a plot at our nearest shopping centers. I am a teacher and I had been planning to take a loan and use the money to build five rental rooms in this plot as a way of diversifying our sources of income. I am happy that I was able to buy some materials majorly bricks, hard core, and gravel using my transfer after tithing KES 5500 since I knew that it was by God's grace that GiveDirectly came to our village. I believe that I will be able to achieve more towards attaining this project using my second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will finally build some houses on a small plot in a shopping centre. I will be renting them out to customers as shops and living rooms. This will increase my income to about KES 10,000 per month. This will help me to expand my dairy farming, which is my passion. It is a business that I can easily do without many challenges like theft and dishonesty from workers. I will spend about KES 100,000 from the transfers on developing the property.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last 6 months, towards the end of the year, my husband converted to Christianity. This has reduced conflicts that we used to have whenever he goes out drinking and comes back very late. He is now transformed and we live a happier couple life!
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Low production in my dairy farm is the biggest challenge that I face. This is brought about by lack of water and feeds for my farm as this is a dry weather area. These are obstacles that I must overcome using part of the transfers to grow Boma Rhodes for hay. I target to get about KES 20,000 per month to cater for school fees for my children, who will soon be joining secondary schools.
