How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next one or two years, I hope to be done with school completely then look for a job to support by family as well. I have two siblings in highschool and three in primary school who still need a lot of support to go through school as well.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I love that Give Directly decided to help us by giving cash so that everyone can solve their own financial problems the best way they can, and this is also important since all of us have different kind of problems.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the second transfer to clear my college school fees arrears and I had paid half of the balance with the first transfer already so this was not much of a hustle for me. Having have depended on my parents to provide everything for my young siblings and I, it has been so hard for them since they have no job neither any properties/assets to sell to provide for us. Give Directly transfers was a boost for us now that I only have to pay very little to be done with school.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was a day like any other, attending my daily computer packages class when I received a notification message bearing the good news of the first transfer. I was so excited about receiving and were it not for the ongoing lesson, I would have run wild in celebrations. It came when I never had in mind that I would have received that day since we were not given an exact date. In my mind, I first thought that it was a prank text but after checking the balance and reading the whole information contained in the message, I thanked God.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is the rejuvenated hope of finally picking my dream career. I had been pushing hard towards this but since my parents have been struggling to keep my other three siblings in different schools with the scarce resources they had could not afford to add me to the list. With the burden they had, I made I resorted to moving out and starting a life of my own separately. It has never been that easy but with prayers, I am glad that the answer finally came.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving the first transfer, I decided to transfer it all to the Mshwari savings account. I had been hoping to enroll in a course in Library Science but the struggle to save towards it has always failed since I have never had a reliable source of income. The transfer I received came just at the right time when I had received the admission letter due in September. This being the only money I had put all my hope in, I saw it best to save it all as I await the second transfer that will cover all the school's entry requirements as well as tuition fees. I am grateful that the hope to finally be back to school is here with me.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I dropped out of school after my secondary school exams and it has always been my hope to further my studies. Receiving this money is a big boost for me because I will now be able to enroll in an Early Childhood Development Education course at a nearby college. This is a dream come true for me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
On an average day, I normally do household chores in the morning and then go and heard my mother-In-Law's cows for the rest of the day. In the morning when I wake up, I feel energized and ready to take up my roles. This is the main reason why the happiest part of my day is in the morning.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of finances is a big challenge to me at the moment. I am a housewife without any source of income given that I only completed secondary education. My husband on the other hand is a casual laborer earning as little as 300 shillings daily. This amount is not enough for us as a family.
