What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Upon receiving these funds, I will be overcome with joy and gratitude. This financial support will bring me one step closer to realizing my lifelong dream of becoming a self-sufficient farmer. I plan to use $400 to acquire half an acre of land where I can cultivate and nurture banana trees. This project is not only a step towards financial independence but also a means to ensure food security for myself and my loved ones. Furthermore, I intend to allocate $300 towards acquiring livestock, such as goats and chickens, which will contribute to the sustainability and diversity of our farming efforts. The remaining funds will be utilized for our household needs, enabling us to establish a more stable and secure living environment.
What is the happiest part of your day?
"As I don't have a spouse or children to rely on at this stage of my life, my greatest source of happiness comes from the fact that I am in good health. This means that I can still engage in various casual jobs to keep myself active and occupied. I don't take my health for granted, as I am well aware that many people my age don't enjoy good health and are unable to fulfill their needs due to health-related limitations."
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been facing significant challenges in obtaining enough food. Being unemployed at my age has made it difficult for me to consistently access three meals a day. I rely mainly on sporadic casual work, which is challenging to secure in the village. Unfortunately, the recent rainy season did not provide much relief, as the harvest I received in January 2024 has already been depleted. I was counting on the March to May 2024 rains to yield a good harvest, but those hopes have been dashed due to the failure of the rains.
