What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
As a mother of ten wonderful children, receiving the funds will mean the world to me. It will be a significant step towards achieving success for my family. I plan to allocate $300 towards building a new home, which has been a challenge given the size of my family. Some of my children have had to sleep in our neighborhood due to lack of space. Additionally, I intend to use $115 to purchase a comfortable mattress and other essential bedding. Furthermore, $180 will be used to buy 5 goats, while the remainder will be allocated for household expenses and school fees for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Despite facing challenges with my health, I find joy in being able to work different casual jobs to support my 10 children. Knowing that three of my children in Kilifi are healthy and able to work casual jobs brings me immense happiness. Our family has been fortunate to avoid chronic illnesses, and we are genuinely content and grateful for our well-being.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As a mother of 10 children, the loss of my husband in early February 2023 has significantly impacted our lives. The primary challenge I face is unemployment, which has made it extremely difficult to meet the needs of such a large family. Providing for my children's necessities, such as food, school fees, and basic essentials, has become a constant struggle. The weight of caring for my children and managing our day-to-day lives now rests solely on my shoulders. To make ends meet, I have resorted to various coping mechanisms for survival, including taking up casual labor such as charcoal burning, which unfortunately exacerbated my chest problems.
