How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had this goal initially since the first transfer, which was making progress in building a permanent brick wall house. This is because I had always desired to have a brick wall house that is more permanent and will last long without having to be regularly renovated or repaired. I had started building it with the money from the first transfer, but had stalled because it hadn't been enough given that all other challenges were addressed using that first transfer, especially food and water.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did everything so well, generally. Through the program, it helped us improve our living standards immensely and I am personally so impressed with its success. I am about to have the house that I have always desired for and I am happy. I do not see anything that GiveDirectly doesn't or didn't do well, in my opinion.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer which was KES 30000 on making progress in building my house that is brick wall one and more permanent. This is because the one I've been living in smaller and made of mud walls, and I've always desired to have a more permanent house. I couldn't afford to get myself a more permanent house because I only used to depend on occasional casual jobs and most of the time I was just at home looking after my children. Therefore, this house I am about to have is a very huge difference in my life and I am so happy.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I left home for the shamba to cut grass for my goats very early in the morning leaving my phone at home since I didn’t expect anyone to call me since it was too early. On reaching home, I found the message on my phone and upon checking I was overwhelmed seeing such huge amount of money. I jumped up and down alone in the house in happiness.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I lack words in expressing my gratitude only God knows how this transfer meant for me. The house was stack for sometime but the transfer from GiveDirectly revived the hopes of us owning a good house. Thank you so much GiveDirectly, sincerely speaking we had no picture of when we could complete our house.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since our house was not in good condition, we decided to construct a good house. Initially we had already started the construction but we were stuck at the block work level. Therefore, we took KES 25000.00 and did the roofing part of it. It did not cost us much like how people thought because my husband knows the roofing work and I acted as his casual laborer so as to cut the cost. I also took KES 6000.00 and KES 3000.00 and paid school fees for my secondary school child and 4 primary school children respectively. I did so for them to be retained in school and concentrate in their studies. Since we are in a difficult season in terms of finding good, I decided to save the rest for the family upkeep while trusting in God to bring rain soonest possible.
