How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I'm much happier because I sleep in a permanent house. Before, I slept in a dilapidated thatched house which rats had destroyed both its walls and the roof. This thatched house also exposed me to respiratory illnesses since it was dusty. But this is never the case again because the house I sleep now is well cemented and gives me comfort.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GiveDirectly has done well by enabling me to construct a permanent house. There is nothing bad that it has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I have used my second transfer to buy a cow, household items such as utensils, chairs, beddings and for plastering my permanent house. I also loaned out part of it and received an acre of land that I will cultivate till I'm paid back.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is a feeling of happiness seeing that I am building my permanent house. This is because it will relieve me from the burden of buying and renovating my grass thatched house yearly. Having this permanent house will also help me now divert the monies I would use to renovate my hut into something else like feeding my family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I felt so happy knowing that it will help me in building a permanent house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer Ugx 1360000 to buy some building materials such as iron sheets, cement, sand, bricks, stones and timber that I have already started using to build my house. I then paid the labors Ugx 250000 up front. I am then saving up the balance of my transfer to cater for some other family emergencies.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy land where we shall be doing agriculture. Currently we just have a small plot and therefore, we are not able to realise more harvests to sustain our family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is because the whole day I am struggling to find what my family will feed on. When we have all eaten, I go to bed when I am very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing right now is limited land for agriculture. The plot we have does not allow us cultivate more crops thus we are faced with hunger very fast.
