How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I could not have built our kitchen. We used to have a single house that served as the kitchen as well as the living room. Accordingly, I am so happy that my family has adequate space that is marked by separate cooking and living houses. Thus, we lead a better life, somthing that could not have happened if not for the financial boost from GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in the way it keeps its promises - the firm sticks to the payment dates and amounts. Accordingly, most of our plans were attained following the timely reception of the funds. Moreover, the firm has attracted great reputation. Thus, I do not find anything that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent 24000 KES of my second transfer on paying school fees for my daughter who is at secondary school pursuing her studies. Besides, I bought 15 pieces of iron-sheet at 9000 KES that would be used in building our new kitchen. Timber at 2000 KES. Moreover, I bought clothes worth 5000 KES for my children. Still, I used 3000 KES on hiring a carpenter who built our kitchen. Finally, I used the remaining amount (10000 KES) on topping up funds that I used in purchasing a cow that we are keeping.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
It has been a real struggle providing food for my family because I have been experiencing low farm production for the last 6 years. Most of the time we end up having only one meal for the whole day.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part on my day is in the evening after a successful day that's when we would relax as a family.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will be the greatest thing that ever happened in my life. The transfer will totally change my current situation as I am planning to use it to improve my farming activities and build a better house since the one I am living right now is leaking.
