How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Had it not have been for the transfers, I would have sold my dairy cow so that I can use the money to pay school fee for my children. This is because selling the cow at that moment was the only option that I had but I thank God because He had different plans for me by using GiveDirectly to change my life.

GiveDirectly did well by deciding to give us a helping hand in terms of cash.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I decided to fence my farm and compound so that my livestock will not be invading my crops. Also, I bought some new beddings for my family to replace the old ones that we were using. I spent the remaining amount to buy some new clothes for everyone in my household.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now a happy and contented parent. This is because my children are now studying well in school and will not be sent back home to collect school fees. Being that one of them is in his final year in secondary school education, I am hopeful that he will pass well. This will enable him to join a good tertiary institution to pursue his dream. Making sure that my children get quality education has always been my prayer since they will be able to help me in the future when I get old.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that I had received money from GiveDirectly in the morning after waking up. I was continuing with my work when one of my neighbors informed me of the good news. My heart was filled with happiness after my son confirmed the good news to me.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used part of my first transfer to pay school fees for my children who had been sent back home. I am now glad since they are now continuing well with their studies because I have been to clear their school fees arrears. On the remaining amount, I used KES 5000 on farming by buying maize seeds and hiring a tractor to till my farm. Also, I bought a heifer worth KES 15000 to add to my herd and it will also be a mark of GiveDirectly in my life. I spent the remaining amount to buy beddings, clothes, and food for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
At my age,am no longer able to do any farm work as well as other duties in the home.I always wished I could own a dairy cow so that I could zero graze.This is because having one will ensure that I will have an income every month without having to strain a lot.Receiving this money means that I will be able to build a dairy shed as well as buy one cow for breeding
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening.It is at this time that my family is all home together and we can chat as we share a meal.It makes me happy that amidst all the other challenges that I face day in day out,I have managed to keep my family together and happy
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I still have children in secondary school and since my age no longer allows me to work in the farm,I often strain to raise their fees.I only depend on my farm and sometimes I have to seek the services of casual labourers who at the end of the day also need to be paid.Raising school fees is the biggest hardship I have faced
