What did you spend your third transfer on?
When I received my third transfer, I spent 15000 KES on a cow, paid school fees for my son in a secondary school worth 15000 KES and the rest of the money has been facilitating me in buying food. I am happy that even when people complained of harsh economic times, I never go minus food.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because my health and that of my household members have improved tremendously because we have been eating better since I started receiving this money. Besides, I have managed to construct a better iron-roofed house as opposed to the one we earlier lived in that was never connected to electricity and was never secure to our lives due to weak structures that supported it. Lastly, I realized that educating my children became fun to me-I was able to clear the whole year school fees as opposed to before then when it was such a daunting task-I couldn't afford to pay and I was a bother to the school administration.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What Give Directly did well is that it sent us money directly and therefore it reached us intact but was little and therefore we were not able to accomplish most of our projects. I think that is where it never did well.
