Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly 9.43am that beautiful morning while in my garden weeding when I heard an SMS notification in my phone. On checking it, it was KES55000 from GiveDirectly. I was elated and hastily left the garden work and that day we celebrated.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is happiness because through the transfers I now own a dairy cow. I had even planted nappier grass before GiveDirectly came with the hope of one day owning a dairy cow. I also bought food in bulk which we couldn't afford before and now my family has grown and healthier. I am also grateful because GiveDirectly transfers has helped to clear my fees which I couldn't afford before because I had younger sisters who depended on my salary.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 35000 of my transfer on clearance of my University fee in order to get my graduation certificate. This is because I cleared the University in 2018 and couldn't get my certificate due to fee areas. I also bought a heifer as a future investment for my family because we didn't have one. I also spent KES 5000 on food and household and clothing.Initially, I relied on maize farming in order to feed my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition is to be a certified teacher. I finished my Bachelor's degree in Education 2 years ago but I did not get my certificate since we were not able to pay for my school fees arrears. For me to be employed and use my skills I need to go back for the certificate and finish the school fees. I'm excited to be visited because I know the transfer will help me in paying for the school fee, get my certification and start looking for employment. From my first transfer I will use KSH 37,000 for the school fees and transport to Nakuru. As for the remaining amount of the transfer I will save and wait for the second transfer so that I can purchase a dairy cow for my homestead.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the past one and a half years I have been a stay at home wife because I'm not able to get teaching jobs. My typical day day revolves around the homestead and farm doing chores, but during lunch time I get to rest and eat after doing morning chores and that's when I'm the happiest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is unemployment, I have not been able to finish my school fees hence no certification.I have tried applying for jobs but when I get to certain schools they require a teaching certificate which I don't have yet.
