How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not get money from give directly I could not have managed to to put up a kitchen and my grandchildren could still be still in my house which is very school small.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly did very well by using empesa as a means of sending momey to us, since it was very convenient and safe. They also did well by not involving authority since it could really attract corruption. I did not see what give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to buy building materials which I used to put up a kitchen which is serves as a cooking house and a bedroom for my grandchildren . I used to spent the night together with them under one which was very small and uncomfortable, they were also aged that they needed their privacy. I am very happy because my grandchildren now has a very comfortable place to sleep on. I spent also spent the transfer to buy a dairy cow, I thought of buying cow because it is a long term investment that I could relay on for so long and it is also a source of income to my family. Fortunately it has started producing milk, that I am selling some to the community and some for my family consumption and making profit. Since the milk has started getting me some income, my family has never gone to bed hungry. We are able to at least meet our daily needs, as compared to before when I was depending on farming alone to sustain my family which sometimes I could not even get enough produce to sustain my family.
