How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am debt free after I settled all my debts. I reclaimed the two plots of farm land that had been attached as collateral for a loan. Previously, I was in a fix because I had no other means of generating income. I am very happy that life is now much comfortable and worth living with the aid of the cash transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to support all the less privileged people who are in need. They do not ask for for bribes during enrollment. GiveDirectly in overall has done only great things for the community.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to settle a debt worth UGX 1000000 and I bought a bicycle worth UGX 300000. I also bought an agricultural insecticide pump and other household items with the rest of the cash transfer.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference so far is that I have been able to plaster my house. This house had spent over eight years with a rough and dusty floor. We were frequently suffering from cough and flu due to the dust. I am very pleased that the GiveDirectly cash transfer has changed my living conditions. I would not have achieved this in a short period of time.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
my phone buzzed at 22:00EAT and I called upon one of our step children who read the mobile money message for me. I was filled with joy because my house needed to be plastered.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I purchased cement worth UGX 417000 and murram worth UGX 100000. I paid the builders worth UGX 42000. I also bought food and other condiments worth UGX 100000. I spent a portion of the cash transfer on household items that I cannot recall. The balance of UGX 550000 will be spent on buying food and other house hold items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means renovating our semi permanent house that we are currently staying in. We are staying in a house that is not yet plastered and without a cemented floor. I will spend part of it on paying debts for the land that I had mortgaged for paying school fees for our children. Currently we have little land for crop cultivation which has rendered our household food insecure.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when my health is good as well as for my child. This will allow me carry on with my daily chores with a lot of ease.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge I face is inadequate food for the household. This is because, we mortgaged out land for money in order to pay medical bills and school fees for the children.
