How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have been hiring oxen to plough my farm land. However, when I got money from GiveDirectly, I was able to acquire an ox that will help me plough my land. Secondly, I have bought a mattresses and beddings for my children and visitors that has made me very happy, because previously I had no mattress for the vistors and whenever I recieved a vistor I made my children to sleep on a mat and the vistor takes up their mattress.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well to give me cash that I spent to acquire an ox. GiveDirectly has only done well in that, your given an opportunity to decide on how to spend the transfers you receive.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase an ox and my spouse spent part of the money.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that the cash transfer has uplifted our polygamous families. I am very happy because I have acquired an ox plough and oxen that will boost our labour force in the family. Before GiveDirectly coming to our aid, life was very hard. We had to exchange our labour force in some one else' farm land so that we could access oxen for ploughing our farm lands.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I overheard shouts of joy from the neighborhood at around midnight. However, I gave my husband to check the message and we were very excited because we needed this financial support.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I purchased a pair of oxen worth UGX 1300000 and an ox plough worth UGX 250000. I also purchased bedding , utensils worth UGX 118000. I also purchased a radio worth UGX 32000.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a cow that will reproduce and provide milk for my family, oxen that will support in farming. This will increase food priductity in my household because I will be in position to farm in a larger scale compared to how I do it now.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the morning when I wake up healthy. I have the hope to do my tasks of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of oxen that would support in farming. Some times I don't have food in the house because what I am able to harvest has to be devided between feeding and raising money both for the hire of oxen and taking care of other household needs.
