How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am self-employed individual since I started receiving transfers from GiveDirectly. Being the head of the family with all the family needs relying on me, before, meeting them all was a challenge. I ventured into business by acquiring a motorcycle for taxi business when I received my first transfers. I took some amount of my second transfers to buy a power saw which I use for cutting timber for construction. This has brought the biggest difference in my daily life now that I enjoy profits from the two businesses. I feel so happy I earn more than I did thus meeting my family needs is easier. Thank you GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving us financial support without any discrimination. This money helped us to achieve a lot of things that we were not able to achieve before. Personally, I wouldn't imagine that I would own some assets some day but with GiveDirectly's aid I managed. I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The second transfers which I received from GiveDirectly I spent KES 35000 to purchase a second hand power saw. I bought it because I needed to have a stable source income. Having experience in running power saw machine I thought it was a good idea to invest in it so that I can earn income out of it. The remaining portion, I spent KES7000 to buy a heifer for rearing and the other amount to buy food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I saw the message and confirmed from friends if they had received money as well. It was interesting to know and learn that everyone in my village had indeed received money from GiveDirectly. I took time before I could withdraw my money and bought a motorcycle that has changed my life and that of my family a lot. I feel so much thankful to GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is he income that I receive from my motorcycle business. This sustained surce of income has brought so much joy not only to me but to my entire family. Worrying about a source of income that would guarantee my family of food for that day is now a thing of the past. I feel so much grateful to GiveDirectly for the timely support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used part of my transfer to buy a motorcycle of my own. I used to depend on small and odd casual jobs to earn income and raise my young family. This was not so sustainable since many at times I would go for days without getting any form of casual jobs to raise my family. It is for this reason that I longed for a motorcycle that would help me earn some income and quit worrying about what my family was going to have for food each and every passing day. When I received my firs transfer, I made a decision to buy a motorcycle that has changed my life by a great extent. I am now assured of a constant source of income each day and not worried about what my family is going to have for a particular day.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building my own house since the one i currently live in belongs to my neighbour who allowed me to live in out of pity after seeing me living under one roof with my mother. I also plan to buy a second hand motorbike at a cost of $400 that will enable me operate bodaboda taxi hence the daily proceeds i earn from the business will enable me to support my family needs with ease.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Waking up feeling energetic in the morning daily makes me happy as it is a motivation that drives me to go out to look for employment that would earn me some income at the end of the day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My spouse abandoned me in the year 2018 May with claims that i could not afford her lifestyle since i do menial jobs that earns me little income. She left with my son who was five months then and my efforts of trying to ask her to come back home have bore no fruit since she is demanding that i pay her dowery to her parents first yet i can't afford to do so. This is the biggest hardship i face
