How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I could have not managed much without GiveDirectly. I used to live in a small house with tilted, weakened walls and leacky roof. This posed a lot of danger to my family as it could fall on us any time. My children are able to continue with their education smoothly, than when they could be sent back home for school fees, stayed home, missed lessons and even exams.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is free from corruption and nobody has authority to influence in choosing recipients. Everyone in this village that was poor stood equal chance for enrollment. There are great changes in living standards for those who embraced it. However, I never experienced anything bad.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
It has been my ambition to live in a better house. My previous house was old, small in size and leaky. It was very uncomfortable during rainy seasons. We were forced to beg for sleeping spaces in neighbors' houses who could later gossip and this made me feel ashamed. Nowadays, I feel so happy since my house has enough rooms that can accommodate visitors. I do not feel worried anymore when it rains as before.
I spent some part on paying school fees for my children. They never miss lessons, exams and their performance have really improved unlike before.
