How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is much better than it was in the past. I proudly live in a two roomed permanent house courtesy of the GiveDirectly cash transfers. I am very happy that I can dress decently and I look much healthier than before. More so,I can afford good medical care at anytime without any worries. Previously, I was miserable and very unhappy. I recall at one time, I was ill but could not afford any medicine. Life was very unbearable. GiveDirectly has brought so much joy into our lives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to send the people direct cash transfers to their phones. The cash transfers have uplifted alot of people from poverty. I have no bad thoughts or evidence on what GiveDirectly has not done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to start up a hair salon business. I bought some household items such as bedding and chairs. I saved some money for medical upkeep.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I have been in position to purchase bricks, that I intend to use for constructing an iron roofed house. I didn't hope of buying these bricks previously because I had no stable source of income. In addition, I have acquired a new mattress and a bed. Before receiving this transfer, I had only one mattress that often forced me to sleep on a mat whenever a visitor comes to sleep over.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the mobile money message at around 10:00 pm, I went ahead to cross check with my Mobile money account balance to confirm the message. Upon learning that I had money in my account, I became very happy because my plan to build an iron roofed house was going to be accomplished.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to purchase 4 trips of bricks at 600,000, food, a mattress, bed and paid for transfer . I have not yet spent UGX 896,000 but I planning to spend it to purchase iron sheets and braids for my salon business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this means I will be able to purchase an acre of land to do agriculture. We are many at home and yet the land our father has is not enough for all of us to cultivate.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in evening. This is because I will have accomplished my daily tasks of agricultre and also provid food for my child.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing is bring up my child as a single mother. The man who made me pregnant abandoned me with the pregnancy and has never even supported us. I am not working but just struggling with the child. These thoughts hardly leave my mind.
