How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have no new goals
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well in giving us free cash which has enabled me to apply cement floor and plaster my house which i could not afford for the past 7 years. There is nothing that you did not do well. Thank you
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy chairs, clothes for myself and my 4 children, and 5 bags of maize. I also bought 9 bags of cement to apply cement floor and plaster my house

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the money made me to be a very happy person as I knew that my life will change for the better. This meant that some of the problems I have been facing in my life will be rectified. I knew that I will manage to finish building my house which I failed to finalise for the past 7 years. This was a big relief to me and made me to be very happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life since I received the transfer is that I am now living a happy life. Before receiving the transfers, my family lacked a lot of things such as food, clothes and a decent home. Now after receiving the transfer, my life has transformed as I have a good looking house and enough food for the family. My children also have decent clothes which makes me happy.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I Spent the transfer to buy 10 bags of cement to put floor on my house. I also bought 5 bags of maize as we had no food at home. The money also helped me to buy pots as well as clothes for my four children which made them happy.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money for me is a blessing and has brought unexpected joy in my family. I intend to use the money to buy ironsheets and cement so that I can build a small house at the back for my old son, i really want him to move out of the family house. I also plan to use this money as capital for business where i will be selling fresh fish in Mangochi town. I have been unable to accomplish these things because I do not have a stable source of income so each penny that I get I use it to buy food for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last 6 months, the thing that brought happiness in my life was when my husband sent an amount of 20,000 Kwacha from South African last month (September). This made me happy because at that time I had no food at all at home so the money came at the right time.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Currently, I am facing a number of challenges but my biggest one is that I feel like my children are not getting proper education. We usually do not have enough food at home so at times I am forced to keep the children at home. My husband is in South Africa but the money he sends has never been enough to take care of the home, let alone send the children to school.
