How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is has changed now because I am able to feed well(twice a day) and dress well on good clothes. With the cows I bought, my husband paid dowery to my parents as required by tradition for any one taking up a girl for marriage. This makes me happy respected and proud. Previously, my family had only one meal in a day. There was pressure from my parent because they wanted dowery. I had no respect from the community around because I wasn't officially married.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to give me money and to sensitise the community on possible ways of spending these transfers . This helped us to make good decisions. I have nothing against the way GiveDirectly works.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer for buying two cows, paying medical expenses and a debt.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I am happy because I was able to clear all my debts within a short time. This could have not been possible had I missed out on the cash transfer. In addition to this, I am happy because I was also able to buy medicines for my ill mother. She is recovering and getting stronger each day. Before I received the cash transfers, my life was surrounded by debts which were burdening me.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard my phone buzzing at night and I over heard people shouting and screaming aloud all over my neighborhood. I was also compelled to scream aloud in joy. The next day I had to share the news with my husband. We were very happy and had numerous plans that we discussed that day.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first cash transfer to clear two loans worth UGX 1000000 which I had acquired for the treatment of my mother. I spent UGX 200000 to purchase a mama kit for myself. The remaining cash transfer was spent on buying food and for purchasing medicine for my sick mother.
