How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been because I have a cow which will reproduce and enable me sell to get money, pay school fees, as well as meet the cost of living. Before, you would have no where to get money to pay childrens school fees and meet other costs like hospital bills.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well giving us money that has enabled people to build iron sheet roofed houses, buy livestock, pay school fees. There's nothing it hasn't done well in my opinion, because other organizations came before, promise help but you will never see it, while GiveDirectly came and delivered its promise without any condition.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
That second transfer was used to buy a cow, chicken, oxen plough tool. I bought household items like clothes, utensils, food; and paid dowry.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Currently the biggest difference in my daily life is the joy I feel seeing that I was able to send my children to school on time as the money came in at the time of fees payment. In addition to this, I feel relaxed having my oxen that I will put together with another person to help in the cultivation. This will promote peace and harmony in my neighborhood. Before getting this transfer, together with my children we would go doing casual labor to raise their fees and money to cater for some home expenses.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt so so happy that I knelt down and thanked God for giving me such amount of money since I had never got such money in my entire life. I prayed and blessed the initiator of this project as it had really come to help most of us.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer Ugx 500000 to pay for my five children school fees. I then went ahead and bought a bull at Ugx 1000000 and a goat at Ugx 100000. I used the balance to buy a few house hold needs such as food and some utensils.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I am going to pay for my children's school fees. I have always wished for my children to have a bright future so that they don't end up like me who dropped out of school after just 3 years of education. I will also buy oxen and an ox-plough to help in agriculture. This will help reduce the burden of hiring ploughing services and also improve our savings that can be channeled to other household demands like food, medical care etc.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon after doing garden work. Its the time I freshen up and sit with the rest of the family members and share any available meal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is poverty. I have a burden of paying school fees but the resources are limited because there are no sufficient funds to cater for that.
