My life has changed because, for one, I paid school, fees for my child for the whole year, which to me is such a big achievement because, for the next one year, I will not be paying any amount in the form of school fees for my child.

I was pleased with the project because it came to change peoples lives in the village. A lot off people bought livestock especially oxen which they will be using to cultivate their land during the planting season.

I used the money to build a new house for my family because that is what we lacked the most. What remained after the expenditure went into the payment of school fees for my child who was in secondary school. I did this in order to be allowed to continue with his studies without being sent home due to lack of payments.

The biggest difference in my daily life is owning a pair of oxen. Currently, I am assured of early and timely cultivation and planting thus I can be able to obtain a robust yield. Previously, I was not getting a good harvest since I could only prepare my acreage of land very late. I had to always wait for other people's oxen to finish their farms so as to hire from them. As a result, my crops were not always doing good at all for I was only getting a handful harvest.

When I saw the Mpesa notification in the morning indicating that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly, I could not believe it at first. I went through the notification again and I was filled with much joy. I was very excited after I realised that indeed GiveDirectly had honored its promise, and it had sent the first transfer that I was anxiously waited for. I, therefore, called my family members to celebrate together with them this great fortune.

I spent my first transfer on purchasing a pair of oxen and a calf. Previously I had no livestock and also I used to hire oxen from neighbours to help me in cultivation and early planting. This was costly to me for a bigger acreage of land since it would require me to pay more for my land to be fully cultivated. I am now at peace for I will no longer be hiring this service. In addition, I will increase the size of the acreage I plough so as to obtain maximum yields. The calf will also grow and reproduce in future and we will be able to obtain milk from it thus I will no longer be buying milk for my family consumption. I also paid a portion of my children's fee arrears to avoid being sent home. Now they are learning comfortably in school.
